Confronting Liberal Media Bias
Same Sex Marriage (Balancing out the Liberal Media Bias with information not reported on, nor emphasized or just flat out biased that may have a negative effect toward values voters)
Media Follow Gay Script on Marriage Ruling-"None of the networks mentioned that California voters had approved the marriage law with a 61.4 percent vote in 2000.
Only NBC’s Pete Williams noted that “opponents” have collected more than 1 million signatures for a state constitutional marriage amendment for the November ballot that would define marriage as only the union of one man and one woman. In the network segments, people defending the traditional definition of marriage were cast negatively as “opponents” or “the opposition.”
California Voters to Decide on Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ – Where’s the Media?-"The liberal media were quick to trumpet the California Supreme Court’s decision to allow same-sex “marriage” last month, but were virtually silent about the news that California residents will have the opportunity to overturn that decision come November...
Only the June 3 broadcast of Good Morning America noted the important development. There was no mention on any of the network newscasts June 2, and neither the CBS Early Show nor NBC’s Today mentioned the story. GMA’s Deborah Roberts reported the story at the beginning of the program...Both GMA’s story and the Associated Press piece note that “enough signatures” were gathered and verified to ensure the petition is included on the ballot. While that statement is factually true it doesn’t tell the full story.
California law requires a petition to have 694,354 signatures to be included on a ballot. According to a press release issued by the California Family Council, 1,120,801 signatures were submitted. In other words, what the mainstream press who bothered to report the story failed to note was that at least one million people in California think the decision reached by four state Supreme Court judges is wrong. Both also failed to report that recent a recent poll shows Californians support a constitutional amendment to define marriage as the union between a man and a woman."
Yawn …. Networks Quickly Drop Blockbuster California Marriage Story-"The Supreme Court of the nation’s largest state redefined the most important relationship in human society, marriage, and the networks lost interest in the story in one weekend. On Thursday, California’s top court issued its decree ordering California to allow same-sex couples to “marry.”
The networks carried the story on their Thursday evening broadcasts, but by Sunday, only one of the Big Three networks’ weekly public affairs shows bothered to discuss it. ABC’s This Week devoted a paltry two minutes to this monumentally important topic. The liberal media treated the story one-dimensionally, as an historic victory for civil rights and the inevitable wave of the future, with a brief quote or two from opponents as a sop to balance. This isn’t surprising, given the media’s commitment to the homosexual agenda."
Media Black Out Discussion of California Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ Implications-"America’s freedom of religion and speech are about to come under attack throughout the nation, but the major news media apparently don’t grasp the significance of the California Supreme Court’s decision mandating same-sex marriage in the Golden State...Yesterday, at the National Press Club in Washington D.C., the Family Research Council (FRC) hosted a press conference with a panel discussing the tremendous nationwide ramifications of the California ruling.
The mainstream media didn’t even bother to show up at their own building to cover the story. Only one major liberal news organization, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reported on the event. A homosexual newspaper, The Washington Blade, and conservative Internet news site Worldnetdaily also published stories. No television or cable network news organizations sent reporters to the event, nor did the New York Times or the hometown Washington Post."
Media Ignore Impending Collision: Gay Rights vs. Religious Liberty-"Thank God for the alternative media. Unlike the big newspapers and TV networks, small conservative online news sites are
reporting the growing threat posed to religious liberty by the burgeoning homosexual rights movement."
Media Downplay Calif. Judges’ Refusal to Stay Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ Ruling-"You probably haven’t heard about it, but on Wednesday, California’s Supreme Court refused to stay its decision requiring California to allow same-sex couples to marry...Same-sex “marriage” advocate Sullivan notes, “…what’s striking is how little furor the decision has actually provoked, and how much more restrained the backlash seems to be in 2008 than it was in 2004….
It is becoming a non-issue. Which means: we win.”
As Kerry went, so goes Obama?-"In 2004, John Kerry's presidential aspirations were dashed when a key swing state unexpectedly voted for his opponent. Ohio – where potential candidates
Obama and McCain remain deadlocked in the polls – may have just received the same push toward the Republican ticket that determined its vote, and the presidency, in the last election. Pundits and
party officials agree Ohio's final tally favored Bush in 2004 because the "gay" marriage issue – which was hot following a Massachusetts Supreme Court ruling
legalizing same-sex unions – drove conservative voters to the polls...The "gay" marriage issue gave Bush a boost in several demographics. The
Ohio Campaign to Protect Marriage hired an independent polling firm to predict the effect of the amendment initiative on the overall vote.
The firm concluded African-American support for Bush would double, undecided voters moved by the issue would swing to Bush at a 6 to 1 ratio and Bush would receive a net vote surge of 3 to 5 percentage points. According to exit polls, Bush did indeed see increases in support among Ohio's African-Americans (up from 9 percent in 2000 to 16 percent in 2004), women (up 5 percent) and Catholics (up 5 percent). Bush's final margin of victory was 2 percentage points."
America Votes to Protect Marriage-"In 2004, thirteen states passed constitutional amendments that defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
The measure received more votes than either presidential candidates, George W. Bush or John Kerry, in all but one state. Four other states had previously amended their constitutions, and two more passed marriage amendments in 2005. In August 2006, Alabama became the twentieth state to protect marriage with a constitutional amendment. Seven additional states passed constitutional amendments on November 7, 2006 (Colorado, Idaho, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin). Arizona became the first state in which a marriage amendment did not pass—narrowly losing 49 percent to 51 percent. In an election year marked by victory for Democrats, the passage of seven of eight marriage amendments—27 overall—
demonstrates that support for marriage transcends party affiliation."
