The ABCs of AIDS Prevention-"Rep. Henry Waxman's (D-Calif.) opposition to abstinence may resonate with liberal leaders, but it isn't winning over many African converts. The California congressman, who, for seven years, has claimed that condoms are the most effective method for curbing disease, has finally met his match in Uganda, where the head of the country's National AIDS Prevention Committee is calling on Americans to "let his people go" and allow Africans to prevent AIDS with what works -- namely, abstinence....our main message was: Stick to one partner. We promoted condoms only as a last resort. Because we knew what to do in our country we succeeded." Indicting the international AIDS lobby, Ruteikara says, "But international AIDS experts who came to Uganda said we were wrong to try to limit people's sexual freedom. Worse, they had the financial power to force their casual sex agendas upon us... As fidelity and abstinence have been subverted, Uganda's HIV rates have begun to tick back up."...Ruteikara's advice. "Tell men and women to keep sex sacred -- to save sex for marriage and then remain faithful. Listen to African wisdom, and we will show you how to prevent AIDS."-See Africa for striking similarities of African Values with those of Values Voters on issues like abortion, homosexuality and abstinence and notice the contrast between African/Values Voter Values and those of Obama.

Senate Cmte Cuts Abstinence Education Funds 25 Percent, Bush May Veto-"The bill also significantly increases funding for community health centers that distribute contraception and birth control from $150 million to $2.2 billion. The legislation would also put $300 million in the pocket of Planned Parenthood through the federal government's Title X family planning programs. The bill keeps the funding level the same as last year...The cuts are coming in part because states are having a hard time putting forth matching funds. But the biggest reason is the pro-abortion push against abstinence programs because federal and state funds have been diverted from Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion business."

Good News: Congress Extends Abstinence-Education Funding-"The U.S. House has passed legislation that extends funding for Title V abstinence education for one year. The funding, which has continued under a series of temporary reauthorizations, was set to expire June 30. Linda Klepacki, sexual health analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said: “The longer Title V is extended, the longer kids get to hear the message that the healthiest choice for non-married youth is to remain sexually abstinent.” In related news, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor Health and Human Services recently voted to include $85 million in funding for Community Based Abstinence Education in the 2009 budget. The full committee now will review the bill."

NEA Members Speak Out On Union's Pro-Abortion Policies-"Washington, D.C. Family Research Council on Wednesday, July 2, at 9:30 am hosted representatives of the group Pro-Life Educators and Students as well as other noted pro-life leaders to criticize the National Education Association's pro-abortion policies and resolutions. The prime reason for the existence of the NEA is for the collective bargaining power it gives to its members. It is not the job of the NEA to issue mandates on social and moral issues and to do so is a misuse of members' dues and misrepresentation of teachers views."-Three 3 minute videos reporting on the concern and progress of this concern within the NEA.

UN

U.N. Terminology Legitimizes Prostitution-"During a recent meeting on HIV and AIDS, the United Nations adopted interesting new terminology. For the first time, most members of the U.N. referred to prostitutes as “commercial sex workers.” “This was the first meeting where homosexuality, prostitution and injection drug use was promoted as acceptable behaviors that should be protected," said Thomas Jacobson, Focus on the Family Action's representative to the U.N. He said the idea behind the new terminology is to remove the stigma from these behaviors. Piero Tozzi, executive vice president at the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, attended the meeting and said members are throwing gas on the fire. “Rather than legitimizing the behavior that leads to HIV/AIDS, there should be efforts meant at curtailing it," he said. "The notion that this is going to help the addicts and benefit society is false.

U.K. Sets a Low Standard with School ‘Sexual Health' Clinics-"Students as young as 11 can receive free condoms, birth-control pills, morning-after pills, pregnancy tests and abortion advice at the new "sexual health" clinics in the U.K. And their parents will never find out. The clinics, housed at hundreds of schools throughout the U.K., are part of a government strategy to reduce teen pregnancies. Yet researchers — who studied 16 clinics over 15 months — reported 213 pregnancy tests and 55 morning-after pills were handed out. “Encouraging pre-teen sexuality by introducing powerful chemicals into children’s bodies is an experiment that may well contain lifelong health consequences,” said Linda Klepacki, sexual health analyst for Focus on the Family Action. “Setting health expectations at the lowest level is a dangerous practice that no country should consider.”

Morning-after pill free at Scottish pharmacies-"The morning-after pill is to be given out free of charge at Scotland’s chemists. Ministers have announced the scheme as teen pregnancy rates reach their highest level since 1998. Scottish Government statistics reveal that the rate among under-16s in 2006 had gone up to 8.1 per 1,000. The figures suggest that Scotland is on course to fall woefully short of its target to reduce rates to 6.8 per 1,000 by 2010. Three fifths of the 772 conceptions among under-16s in 2006 ended in abortion. In total, over 3,500 women aged below 20 terminated a pregnancy that year. Although the Scottish Government has rejected calls to give out the morning-after pill in schools, ministers say that it should be more easily accessible. It has not yet been decided if there will be an age limit on who can receive the pill. Critics have warned that the move will not help reduce rates of teenage pregnancy, abortion or sexually transmitted diseases. They say the scheme will encourage risk-taking sexual behaviour."

Gay Couple Sues Adoption Service-"A same-sex couple in New York is suing an online adoption group based in Arizona that refused, based on religious beliefs, to provide services. ParentProfiles.com, an Internet service that matches adoptive parents with babies, allows only “a qualifying husband and wife couple” to use its services. Rosario Gennaro and Alexander Gardner are fighting the policy. "We've already seen a Catholic adoption agency in Massachusetts shut its doors rather than compromise its religious convictions,” said Dawn Vargo, bioethics analyst for Focus on the Family Action. “Unfortunately, we will see more agencies forced to choose between religious beliefs and the desires of homosexual activists unless we protect the freedom to act according to moral and religious convictions."-Also, see NPR and Homosexual hit the spot that most secular news mediums miss: Religious Discrimination in the name of Gay Rights., What do 52 members of US Congress and Brazilian President Luiz Lula have in common? and UK: House of Lords recognizes dangers of hate laws to free speech and religious liberty.

Force public bodies topromote 'gay rights' -"Public bodies like schools, the police, and local councils should be forced by law to promote ‘gay rights’, says Britain’s leading homosexual lobby group. Homosexual-only shortlists for Parliamentary candidates should also be permitted, Stonewall says. The comments come in anticipation of the Government’s proposals for a vast, over-arching Equality Bill. The Christian Institute has raised concerns about how the Bill may impact religious liberty."
