Confronting Liberal Media Bias

Oil and Gas (Balancing out the Liberal Media Bias with information not reported on, nor emphasized or just flat out biased that may have an impact on voters)

Morning Bell: Holding the Left Accountable on Energy Prices-"According to Rasmussen Reports, 67% of voters believe that offshore drilling should be allowed, and 64% believe lifting the ban on offshore drilling will lead to lower gas prices. A new Reuters poll found that 60% of Americans favor more domestic drilling and refinery construction to cool record prices."

Americans Blame Congress for Gas Prices, Consumer Reports Survey Shows-"A Consumer Reports survey reveals that Americans are blaming Congress for high gas prices, which are compelling them to make shifts and sacrifices in their consuming habits. The Auto Pulse Survey, conducted by Consumer Reports National Research Center, showed that 77 percent of consumers single out the government's failure to implement an effective energy policy as a root cause for high gas prices; 75 percent of consumers blame oil companies; and 70 percent blame foreign oil producers. When asked about actions the federal government could take to reduce fuel costs, 81 percent want to allow more drilling in the United States and offshore and 90 percent support increasing alternative energy development. Among the respondents, 84 percent want to negotiate lower prices with oil-exporting nations, and 83 percent want to encourage conservation through tax incentives or alternative transportation."

Obama's for Equal Pay, Yet Pays Female Staffers Less Than Males-"While Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has vowed to make pay equity for women a top priority if elected president, an analysis of his Senate staff shows that women are outnumbered and out-paid by men. That is in contrast to Republican presidential candidate John McCain's Senate office, where women, for the most part, out-rank and are paid more than men. Obama spoke in Albuquerque, N.M. last week about his commitment to the issue and his support of a Senate bill to make it easier to sue an employer for pay discrimination. "Mr. McCain is an honorable man, we respect his service. But when you look at our records and our plans on issues that matter to working women, the choice could not be clearer," Obama told the audience in New Mexico, a voter-swing state."

Web-Telethon Raises $1 Million for Care Packages for Troops-"Americans from across the nation tuned in to hear the "un-told" stories behind the war on terror at last Thursday's "From the Frontlines" Web-based telethon. The program, which ran for eight hours, was presented to raise money to deliver thousands of care packages to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan - and it succeeded, pulling in more than $1 million, $500,000 above its goal...Each hour of the broadcast Morgan and Malkin spoke with prominent conservative media figures, including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Dr. Laura, Ollie North, Laura Ingraham and Brent Bozell. Many expressed dissatisfaction with the media coverage of the war. "The reason the troops are forgotten is because they're succeeding," Rush Limbaugh told viewers. "There's only news if things are falling apart. There's only news when there's big trouble. When there's success, there isn't any news."

The 40th Anniversary of Paul Ehrlich's The Population Bomb-"In his book The Population Bomb, first published in 1968, Paul R. Ehrlich made a number of predictions about the future of our planet based on his understanding of population growth and food supplies. Ehrlich’s projections were not new....The facts tell a different story. “All you can see is growing wealth around the world, increased caloric intake, increased life expectancy,3 increased per-capita wealth,” says Jerry Taylor, director of natural resource studies for the Cato Institute, a Washington research center that opposes most government intervention.“We are increasingly conquering death around the world,” Taylor adds. “A century ago, human life expectancy was about 30 years. Now it’s 60 or 70 years. People are not starving to death. They are getting better food and they are living longer.”And because they are living better, Taylor said, people are having fewer children.4"....The escalating prices and shortages we are seeing in commodities are the result of government control of markets. The lack of food in underdeveloped countries is the result of government interference. What do politicians believe the solution is? More government control."
