McCain and Obama in Forum broadcasted online on 08/16/2008, 5 - 7pm.
Civil Forum on The Presidency-"At the candidates’ request, this two-hour event will be held in a non-debate format, and will be open to all media. Both candidates also requested that questions be posed exclusively by Warren rather than by a panel or members of the audience. Each candidate will converse separately with Warren for approximately an hour, beginning with Sen. Obama, as determined by a coin toss. This historic forum will be the only joint event for the two, and the last public appearance for either candidate prior to the two-week hiatus during each party’s national convention....The Saddleback Civil Forum series was established to promote civil discourse and the common good of all. The first forum, held during Passover week this year, featured five Jewish World War II Holocaust survivors sharing their stories. In September, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair will be featured. Although Rick Warren’s primary calling is to proclaim the Gospel Truth of salvation in Jesus Christ, he created the Civil Forums to further three additional life goals: helping people accept responsibility, helping the Church regain credibility, and encouraging our society to return to civility."
Candidates to Talk on Jesus, Abortion-Excellent quick video report/article for further context and controversy including quick snip from Obama and Lieberman on this forum from CBNNews and CBNNews will be live video streaming the event!!!!
Rick Warren hosts presidential forum Sat. night-"Pastor Warren says he will also have Obama and McCain discuss their religious faith. "The leader who says, 'I'm going to take my worldview and just put it on the shelf when I make decisions,' is either an idiot or they're lying, because you can't do it," the well-known Christian author adds. "All of your decisions are based on what you value, what you believe in life. And so I think it's important to find out what these guys really believe." American Family News and OneNewsNow.com will be providing in-depth coverage following the forum."

Energy Concerns that are largely missed in mainstream media
Morning Bell: Unintended Consequences of Wind Energy-"Unintended consequences of the federal government’s energy policy are nothing new. Think about ethanol. The United States is now committed to using 9 billion gallons of ethanol in 2008, which will rise to 36 billion by 2022. No one thought it would be responsible for pushing 30 million people into poverty. No one thought of the adverse effects ethanol policy would have on the environment....Now, Americans are quite literally feeling the unintended consequences of wind energy. While wind is often touted as a green, renewable source of energy, Dr. Nina Pierpont of Malone, N.Y., asserts that wind has its downsides, too. She calls it wind turbine syndrome....Is this a legitimate threat? Maybe. Her message hardly seems politically motivated. In her testimony, Pierpont says she’s an advocate of renewable fuels. Sure enough, as soon as the people drove away from the wind turbines, the symptoms ceased. In fact, eight of the 10 families in Pierpont’s study moved out of their homes. While she doesn’t claim that these effects happen to everyone living near wind turbines, it’s something to consider if the country decides to take on massive wind projects....These problems aren’t unique to the wind industry; the solar panel industry has had its troubles as well. For instance, Solar Inc., the world’s largest solar company, recently told investors that its largest market, the European Union, may ban its solar panels because they contain toxic cadmium telluride."
Pro-Life
'Positive shift' claimed in Dems' abortion stance-"A group of evangelical and Catholic leaders claims pro-life voters should be willing to support presidential nominee Barack Obama because there's been a "positive shift" in language on the issue of abortion in the Democratic Party platform. A party platform typically mirrors the principles and policies of its presidential nominee. On the issue of abortion, the proposed platform does essentially that, stating that the Democratic Party:
"...strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right."
"...strongly supports access to affordable family planning services and comprehensive age-appropriate sex education which empowers people to make informed choices and live healthy lives. We also recognize that such health care and education help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and thereby also reduce the need for abortions."
"...strongly supports a woman's decision to have a child by ensuring access to and availability of programs for pre- and post-natal health care, parenting skills, income support, and caring adoption programs."-What if the Republicans came out with a pro-choice platform when Bush has done so much contrary to pro-choice and then religious leaders in churches promote Bush as pro-choice!!!!???? This is absurd. Obama is the most anti-life presidential nominee to date. On record even more so then Clinton. These religious leaders are bearing a witness of Obama that is false violating one of there religious 10 commandments all in the name of politics. This is not good advice at all. See more below....and see Media's no emphasis of abortion as an issue hurting McCain and helping Obama/Obama on Fatherhood/The Physiology of Motherhood/Bush vs Clinton and The "I'm a Christian" trap and The "Goose Bump" and "Race" trap.
'Evangelicals' ripped for plugging Dems' abortion platform-"A group of Catholic and evangelical leaders -- men such as Joel Hunter, Jim Wallis, Doug Kmiec, and Tony Campolo -- held a teleconference Tuesday to declare that Barack Obama and the Democratic Party have taken a "historic" and "positive step forward...in establishing common ground that will lead to abortion reduction."...."Some of these people...you've mentioned and others that are like them trot around the country telling people they're pro-life -- and if we believe that and [if] we count on them when the time comes that we really need them, then we're going to be sorely misled and sorely let down," states Crutcher. "So I think that what's happening right now is that God is showing us who the people are that we can count on...Crutcher says the goal of the pro-life movement is returning legal protection to every unborn child -- but the Democratic Party, he argues, has done nothing to suggest it is even remotely interested in doing that. Another pro-life activist, Steven Ertelt of LifeNews.com, has also taken a swipe at the proposed platform, citing its expressed support for the so-called "Freedom of Choice Act."
Obama pro-abortion all the way, says NRLC-"A pro-life group says not only is Barack Obama 100-percent pro-abortion, it is now known that he even opposed a law designed to protect children who survived an abortion and were born alive. New documents just obtained by the National Right To Life Committee (NRLC) prove that Senator Obama (D-Illinois) has, for the past four years, blatantly misrepresented his actions on the Illinois Born-Alive Infants Protection bill....A group of evangelical and Catholic leaders claimed this week that pro-life voters should be willing to support Obama in his presidential bid because there has been a "positive shift" in language on the issue of abortion in the Democratic Party platform, which typically mirrors the principles and policies of its presidential nominee. But at least one pro-life activitst notes the proposed platform seeks the repeal of all state-level pro-life laws."-See upcoming blogs on new findings and documentation of Obama on the Born Alive Infant Protection Act in his state.
Pledges succeed in helping teens abstain from sex-"Those pledges can be surprisingly effective, according to a new study from the RAND Corp. Students ages 12 to 17 who made purity pledges were 21 percent less likely to have sex within three years of making a pledge than were teens who wanted to avoid sex before marriage but did not make a pledge, according to RAND’s research, published online by the Journal of Adolescent Health."
Religion
Religion predictive in upcoming election -""Is religion important in your daily life?" Simple question with important consequences. Among those who say “yes”, it’s McCain by 37 points. Among those who say “no”, it’s Obama by 16 points...Other questions about religion are almost as valuable. Whites who attend church weekly go to McCain by 36 points. Those who attend nearly every week or monthly tilt towards McCain by 18 points. Those who seldom or never attend church support Obama by 9 points...In a nutshell, the Democratic Party has been more open to acceptance of behavioral patterns which deviate from traditional normative patterns – particularly relating to family structures. The Republican Party has been more protective of traditional structures and behavioral norms, aligning them with the viewpoints of those who are highly religious. And it doesn't look like this is going to change this year."
Marriage
Democratic Platform Calls for Homosexuals in the Military-"The national platform approved at a Democratic Platform Committee meeting in Pittsburgh on Saturday includes language that calls for repealing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy implemented by Democratic President Bill Clinton and for allowing homosexuals to serve openly in the military. Under current federal law, homosexual conduct is illegal in the U.S. military."
Defense of Marriage Act ‘Won’t Count’, Says Democratic Senator from Iowa-"When it comes to November’s presidential elections, voters in the swing state of Iowa will not care about ‘hot button’ issues such as same-sex marriage, Sen. Thomas Harkin (D-Iowa) told CNSNews.com in a telephone conference call Tuesday. Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said he thinks voters in his state care deeply about marriage but do not realize that the Democrats are serious about wanting to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). DOMA is a federal law that protects states from being forced to recognize same-sex marriages contracted in other states as they ordinarily would be required to do under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution.....In 1996, Harkin had joined 149 of his Democratic colleagues in Congress to vote in favor of DOMA. The DOMA defines marriage as the legal union of one man and one woman for purposes of all federal laws. Signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996, the DOMA protects states from having to recognize same-sex marriages contracted in other states."
Independent Lieberman on McCain and Obama
Lieberman puts smackdown on Obama-"Independent Democrat Joe Lieberman issued an unflattering critique of Sen. Barack Obama today...In some of his sharpest criticism to date, Lieberman said the Illinois senator had never stood independently and reached across the aisle during his 3½ years in the Senate. "If there's one public official who has consistently put his country ahead of his party, working across party lines to get things done in Washington, it is John McCain," Lieberman said in an interview with ABC News. "It's not Barack Obama, with all respect."
