New York Times fails to mention Democrat Party in story of Racism and Anti-Semitism

New York Times Fails to Name That (Racist, Anti-Semitic) Party-"New York Times reporter Adam Nossiter filed a disturbing story about racism and anti-Semitism in a Democratic primary in Memphis -- but left out the "Democrat" part. On Thursday, Southern-based reporter Nossiter relayed a disturbing story about racism and anti-Semitism in a House primary in Memphis, "Race Takes Central Role in a Memphis Primary." But which party's primary? That's the one thing missing from Nossiter's story -- the word "Democrat.""

ABC, CBS and NBC fails to mention party affiliation when it comes to nasty Democrats but always for nasty Republicans

New York Governor Spitzer

'Straight Arrow' Governor 'Eliot Ness' Spitzer (?-NY)-"Incredibly, in lead stories Monday night about New York Governor Eliot Spitzer being linked to a prostitution ring, neither ABC's World News nor the NBC Nightly News verbally identified Spitzer's political party. Must mean he's a liberal Democrat -- and he is. CBS anchor Katie Couric, however, managed to squeeze in a mention of his party. Last August when news of Larry Craig's arrest broke, both ABC and NBC stressed his GOP affiliation. On ABC, the only hints as to Spitzer's party were a few seconds of video of Spitzer beside Hillary Clinton as they walked down some steps and a (D) on screen by Spitzer's name over part of one soundbite. NBC didn't even do that."-03/11/2008

USA Today Never Labels Spitzer as Dem, But Tags Craig and Vitter -"In 1,760 words, Tuesday's front page USA Today article on New York Governor Eliot Spitzer never identified him as a Democrat, not even in photo captions, though the online version was updated with his party affiliation, yet described Senators Larry Craig and David Vitter as Republicans in the first mentions of their names in the story. Here's the lead of the hard copy edition delivered to the MRC's offices Tuesday morning:..."-03/12/2008

CBS's Early Show Makes No Mention of Spitzer Being a Democrat-"CBS's Early Show on Tuesday began with nearly nine minutes devoted to New York Governor Eliot Spitzer's sex scandal, but did not feature anyone saying the word "Democrat."... During his report, Glor mentioned Spitzer's "political opponents" calling for the Governor's resignation making sure not mention those "opponents" were Republicans."-03/12/2008

Today Spends 4 Hours Ignoring the 'D' Next to Spitzer's Name-"With four hours of air time to fill, NBC's Today show devoted a whopping 11 segments on Tuesday to the Eliot Spitzer scandal but not once did any of the show's anchors, reporters, guests, talking heads or even on-screen graphics mention the fact that Spitzer is a Democrat...."-03/12/2008

For Second Night, ABC and NBC Refuse to Utter Spitzer's Party ID-"Just as occurred Monday night, viewers of Tuesday's ABC and NBC evening newscasts never heard the word "Democrat" applied to New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, nor did they even put a "(D)" on screen by his name as ABC did briefly Monday. CBS didn't announce his party either on Tuesday night, but Katie Couric had done so Monday night. The ABC and NBC newscasts, however, did put "(R)" on screen over soundbites from Republicans and NBC's Mike Taibbi twice referred to the reaction from "Republican" politicians."-03/12/2008

Today Show Continues Embargo on Spitzer Party Affiliation-"For the second consecutive day, NBC's Today show refused to identify Eliot Spitzer as a Democrat. In a total of seven Spitzer-related segments on Wednesday's Today show, and one interview with Barack Obama where the scandal was mentioned, not one anchor, reporter, guest, talking head or on-screen graphic mentioned Spitzer's party affiliation. However, following the pattern of Tuesday's NBC's Nightly News, the Today show graphics department did take time to place an "R" next to Rep. Peter King and New York state Rep. Joe Tedisco."-03/13/2008

ABC Finally IDs Spitzer as Democrat, NBC Fails to for Third Night-"For the third evening in a row Wednesday, the NBC Nightly News refused to identify Eliot Spitzer as a Democrat, but after ABC's World News failed to cite his party affiliation on Monday and Tuesday night when Elizabeth Vargas anchored, on Wednesday evening substitute anchor George Stephanopoulos finally properly tagged him: "The Democrat resigned today just two days after reports that he patronized a high-priced prostitution service."--03/13/2008

Study: No (D) for Spitzer, Vitter and Craig Always Tagged as GOP -"The big three broadcast networks have gone out of their way to avoid labeling scandal-scarred New York Governor Eliot Spitzer as a "Democrat." An examination of the fifteen ABC, CBS and NBC morning and evening news shows through Wednesday night finds Spitzer was called a Democrat just 20 percent of the time -- twice on CBS, once on ABC, and never on NBC. So, how do the networks treat Republicans involved in sex scandals? Always, always as "Republicans." Looking at the ABC, CBS, NBC morning and evening shows in the days after the most recent scandals broke, Republican Senators David Vitter (July) and Larry Craig (August) were labeled "Republican" on every show (100 percent). Yet for Democrat Spitzer, four out of five news programs (80 percent) have skipped his party identification."-03/14/2008

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick

ABC, CBS and NBC All Fail to ID Indicted Mayor as a Democrat-"Two weeks since the ABC and NBC evening shows took multiple days before getting around to informing viewers that disgraced New York Governor Eliot Spitzer belonged to the Democratic Party -- after every ABC, CBS and NBC morning and evening news program last year immediately highlighted the party of Republican Senators David Vitter and Larry Craig -- Monday's broadcast network evening newscasts all failed to note, verbally or on-screen, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's party."-03/24/2008

ABC's Good Morning America Skips Kilpatrick's Party Affiliation-"Good Morning America co-host Chris Cuomo somehow managed to make it through an entire Monday segment on Kwame Kilpatrick, the scandal-ridden Democratic mayor of Detroit, without mentioning his political affiliation (other than a brief, non-verbal video graphic). Cuomo described Kilpatrick as the "beleaguered mayor," a "prominent politician," and, simply, "the mayor." In contrast, while GMA's report on Kilpatrick was a rather straight forward recitation of the facts, the morning program wondered in August of 2007 if Senator Larry Craig's bathroom scandal could spell doom for the Republican Party. On August 28, 2007, guest co-host Bill Weir gravely wondered, "Is the GOP losing its grip?" For a round-up of media coverage in relation to Larry Craig and the GOP, see an August 29, 2007 CyberAlert posting: http://www.mrc.org.%22/-03/24/2008

Kilpatrick Leads Democratic Group, Yet Nets Refuse to Name Party-"Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is hardly reticent about touting himself as a Democrat. After all, he's the Vice President of the National Conference of Democratic Mayors and in January was re-elected its representative to the Democratic National Committee. But in ABC and NBC news stories Thursday night about how a Michigan judge ordered him to jail immediately for violating his bond, neither identified him as a Democrat (verbally or on screen) -- not even in a full two-minute NBC story...."-08/08/2008

Again Friday Morning, No (D) for Incarcerated Detroit Mayor-"The Big Three networks continued to ignore the party affiliation of the now-incarcerated Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick on Friday morning, just as they had done in their evening news programs the previous night...."-08/11/2008

On Party Labeling, FNC Credits 'Media Watchdog NewsBusters.org' -"Baier first outlined how the AP neglected to mention his party, but "when Alaska Senator Ted Stevens was indicted" last month "the AP made his party affiliation clear" since "the article included the word 'Republican' seven times and 'GOP' four times."-08/11/2008

ABC Slide show of sex scandals in politics

Can You Name The Party?-"With thanks to NewsBusters for this tidbit, watch the slideshow below and see if you can spot the Democrats from the Republicans. This slideshow is from ABC's "Political Sex Scandals Redux" which is a series of 13 photos of past and present politicians. If you can't spot a Democrat, don't blame yourself. ABC only labeled the Republican politicians, leaving the party affiliation off of every Democratic politician except for one, and that scandal dates back to 1983. To me, this is a great example of the apparent bias of the major news media outlets."-03/11/2008. Since then Edwards was added and it does show his parties affiliation with Democrat.

White House vs NBC

Setting the Record Straight: President Bush's Interview With Richard Engel of NBC News-"This e-mail is to formally request that NBC Nightly News and The Today Show air for their viewers President Bush's actual answer to correspondent Richard Engel's question about Iran policy and "appeasement," rather than the deceptively edited version of the President's answer that was aired last night on the Nightly News and this morning on The Today Show....To View The Edited Version Of NBC News' Interview, Click Here To View The Full Interview Of The President, Click Here"-05/19/2008 letter from the White House to NBC.
