Huckabee vs Romney

Romney Should Not Have Complied with Court on Same-Sex Marriage, Says Huckabee-"In an exclusive video interview with CNSNews.com, Huckabee said that, had he been in Romney’s shoes, he would not have used his executive power as governor to carry out the court’s unilateral declaration that the other branches of state government must certify same-sex marriages."

Global Warming

Just to give another side of the story that is usually not reported on in the media for balance and offsetting information.

New Report Calls into Question ‘Man-Made’ Climate Change-"New scientific evidence suggests there is a stronger link between solar activity and climate trends on Earth than there is with greenhouse gases, Fred Singer, an atmospheric and space physicist, told CNSNews.com. The new data call into question whether scientific evidence shows that global warming is a man-made phenomenon and suggests that natural forces, as opposed to human activity, may drive global climate change. Singer is one of many scientists who say recent scientific observations have determined that “solar variability” – or fluctuations in the sun’s radiation – directly affects climate change on Earth. “In the broad sense, the Earth’s climate is determined by solar radiation,” Singer said. “If the radiation changes, so will the general climate.” Singer said scientists have long theorized that changes in the sun’s activity also impact the amount of cosmic rays reaching the earth – affecting the Earth’s cloudiness and thereby the climate....The impact of solar variability is explained in a report Singer co-authored and edited in cooperation with other scientists for the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC), which also claims that the mathematical models upon which the United Nations bases its “global warming” assessment are “pre-programmed” to produce results that substantiate the notion of “anthropogenic” (or man-made) global warming. The report, “Nature, Not Human Activity Rules the Climate,” has helped open the way for scientists to perform meaningful research in areas that have been largely unexplored and under-emphasized in previous studies, Singer said in the interview..."

GOP Platform Draft: Global Warming is Man-Made-"A final draft of the Republican Party platform includes a first-ever plank on global warming that says human activity has contributed to climate change. "The same human activity that has brought freedom and opportunity to billions has also increased the amount of carbon in the atmosphere," the draft reads. "Increased atmospheric carbon has a warming effect on the earth." The GOP platform was approved by a 112-person platform committee in Minneapolis, Minn., late on Wednesday and will likely be ratified at the Republican National Convention on Monday."

Religion vs Same Sex Marriage

Be prepared for one side reporting on this issue!

‘Gay’ Journalism Conference Panel Targets Religious Influence on Public Policy-"Washington Post editor, defrocked minister urge homosexual reporters to ignore conservative Christian leaders like Pat Robertson and James Dobson. Should coverage of religion in America ignore conservative Christian leaders like Dr. Pat Robertson and Dr. James Dobson? Yes, according to a session at the annual conference of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association, held over the weekend in Washington D.C....The panel included just one journalist, David Waters of The Washington Post...According to Gold, “the single biggest [obstacle] to gays having equal rights in the country is religion,” so “I set myself to learn about it.” GLAAD’s Craig said, “We’re not getting anyplace until we begin conquering the debate” in the religious community. Creech, who was defrocked in 1999 for conducting same-sex “marriages,” asserted that Christian leaders like Robertson and Focus on the Family founder and psychologist Dr. James Dobson are “the most radical Christians in America today,” and represent “a very minority point of view.”...David Waters, editor of the “On Faith” blog, which appears on The Washington Post and Newsweek Web sites, urged reporters “not to go” to established leaders like Robertson and Dobson, contrasting them to “real people”...Said Gold, “If you can get the questions out and get politicians not to use their religious beliefs for something like this, it’s an extraordinary change.” This NLGJA discussion illustrated that homosexual outreach to religious believers is not intended to find common ground, but to find a way to remove religious influence from the public square."-Wow!!! See the Testimony of Charlene Cothran ex-gay magazine owner/activist for another point of view.

NBC to ‘Gay’ Journalists: ‘Your Victories Are Our Victories’ -"The news media loudly proclaimed its support for the homosexual activist agenda at the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association convention in Washington, D.C. The National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) just held its annual convention here in Washington D.C., attracting hundreds of journalists – and ringing endorsements – from virtually every major publication and broadcaster in the news media. In a full-page ad in the convention program, NBC Universal declared it is “proud to support NLGJA,” under the bold headline: “YOUR VICTORIES ARE OUR VICTORIES.”After listening to speaker after speaker express hatred and contempt for political and religious conservatives while plotting how to advance the homosexual activist agenda through journalism, I’m left wondering whether Americans know the extent of the media’s bias on homosexual issues. Do they know that the news media have thrown themselves fully behind the gay rights movement? Every major news organization sponsored the convention, bought space in the program or had recruiting booths. Hatred. NBC/National Journal reporter Matthew Berger said he experienced “reverse Stockholm syndrome” while on the campaign trail covering GOP religious conservative Mike Huckabee. “Stockholm syndrome” is what afflicts hostages who come to love their captors. If Berger’s feelings changed after traveling with the Huckabee campaign, they went in the opposite direction. He acknowledged how difficult it is for a journalist to do his job when you “hate” the people you’re covering. Berger said he was happy when he was transferred to the “gay-friendly” Rudolph Giuliani campaign. Sending an outspoken activist like Berger, the former president of NLGJA’s Washington D.C. chapter, to cover the Huckabee campaign is like sending a hard-right activist to cover the Obama campaign. What was NBC thinking? Maybe they had no choice. Does NBC have anybody on staff who doesn’t hate religious conservatives?"-A must read on this issue. Wow!!! Don't expect any non bias reporting after conferences like these!!!

Hallmark Cards

Some Hallmark stores refuse same sex wedding cards; Competitor American Greetings won’t carry same sex wedding cards-"CBS reports that seven Hallmark stores in Idaho are refusing to carry the cards while: “Hallmark’s largest competitor, American Greetings Corp., has no plans to enter the market, saying its current offerings are general enough to speak to a lot of different relationships.”

$6 million.-"That's what an outside group known as "Let California Ring" is spending on its misleading and manipulative TV ads designed to undermine Prop. 8 in just the next four weeks. And this doesn't even count the millions that have been pledged to the official No campaign by big corporations and Hollywood. This early onslaught of millions in advertising dollars shows clearly what we are up against

GLAAD Announces $100,000 Contribution to NO on Prop 8, Equality for All Campaign-"“The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) today announced a $100,000 contribution to the NO on Prop 8, Equality for All campaign. ”

Proposition 8 to Protect Marriage Receives $1 Million Donation from the Knights of Columbus Catholic Organization-"Proposition 8, the ballot initiative to Protect Marriage, announced today it has received a $1 million contribution from the Knights of Columbus, the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization. Throughout its history, the Knights of Columbus has been an effective advocate and defender of civil and religious rights for all. The organization has also contributed billions of dollars and millions of hours of volunteer service to charity. Knights of Columbus spokesman Patrick Korten said that the million dollar donation from the Knights “is both an indication of how important we believe this referendum to be...The Knights of Columbus includes more than 1.7 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Phillippines, Mexico, and other areas. "

Ballot Initiative to Protect Marriage Receives Endorsement of California Catholic Conference-"Today, ProtectMarriage.com announced the endorsement of the California Catholic Conference. The support comes from the Archdioceses of Los Angeles and San Francisco; Dioceses of Fresno, Monterey, Oakland, Orange, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Jose, Santa Rosa and Stockton; Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Van Nuys; and the Maronite Catholic Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles. In their statement, the Bishops offer counsel to people of Catholic faith in California in their "response to this radical change in California's public policy regarding marriage." Declaring that same-sex unions are not the same as opposite-sex unions, the leadership states that the ideal well-being of children is to be raised by both a mother and a father in a traditional marriage."

Good News: California Churches Unite to Support Marriage-"ProtectMarriage.com, a coalition of local, state and national groups, is attempting to get 1 million Catholics, Jews, Mormons, Muslims, evangelical Christians, Sikhs and Hindus to post "Yes on Proposition 8" signs on their lawns. Prop. 8, a proposed state constitutional amendment which goes to voters in November, would restore the definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman. "This is a rising up over a 5,000-year-old institution that is being hammered right now," Jim Garlow, pastor of Skyline Church in La Mesa, told the Los Angeles Times. Garlow helped organize 3,400-person conference calls across denominations to coordinate campaign support for the proposed constitutional amendment. "What binds us together is one common obsession: . . . marriage," he said. "If Proposition 8 fails, there is an inevitable loss of religious freedom."

Orthodox Jews Join Fight Against “Gay Nuptials”-"The most powerful Orthodox Jewish umbrella group has thrown its support behind a ballot initiative that aims to overturn California’s historic decision to legalize same-sex marriage. In late August, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America joined a coalition of faith-based groups supporting Proposition 8 . . . "

WSJ: “Gay Activists Target Businesses”-"Bolthouse Farms is the latest target in what has become an increasingly bitter political fight in California. As gay-rights activists attempt to defeat the upcoming ballot initiative, called Proposition 8, they are going after not just individuals, but also companies to which they are connected, however tenuously."

Professor’s letter argues boycott over Cal. Prop. 8 support would undermine AALS mission-"Stephen Bainbridge, a UCLA law professor, has published an email that he has sent urging the American Association of Law Schools to reject calls to boycott a hotel, whose owner financially supported California’s proposed marriage amendment. He writes: As blogger Tom Smith asks, if the AALS is going to boycott the hotel on such flimsy grounds, why not just kick those law professors who disagree with same sex marriage out of the AALS? . . . In closing, it is especially critical that the AALS acknowledge that there is no issue of discrimination here. There is no evidence that the hotel in question discriminates against gays. Instead, this is viewpoint discrimination on the part of a handful of activists who are seeking to hijack the AALS for purposes of holding a boycott intended to punish someone with whose views on a contested issue of public policy they differ . . .TaxProf Blog links to many more posts on this issue. Greg Sisk has this post on the Mirror of Justice Blog: The Proposed AALS Boycott: The Sad Politicization of a Scholarly Association. Association of American Law Schools “caves to activists”-"Via Instapundit, a press release from the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) “addressing” the proposed boycott of its annual meeting: Our contracts with the hotels provide that each hotel reserve a block of guest rooms, and leave to the AALS the choice of where to locate the AALS Registration, Exhibit Hall, Section Programs, Presidential Programs, and House of Representatives meetings. We will honor our contracts with both hotels, and we have exercised our option to hold all AALS events at the Marriott to ensure the maximum participation by our members. More on this at the TaxProf Blog."

'Deceptive' tactics continue to undermine Prop. 8-"At least some supporters of homosexual "marriage" in California are resorting to deceptive tactics to try to gain the support of voters who outlawed the practice only eight years ago. First it was California Attorney General Jerry Brown changing the ballot title -- from defining marriage as between one man and one woman, to eliminating the right of same-sex couples to marry. Now an unidentified supporter of same-sex marriage has printed bumper stickers that inaccurately encourage people to "Preserve Marriage: Vote NO on Prop. 8."

Prop. 8 proponents will appeal decision upholding flawed ballot title-"The appeal will ask the California Court of Appeal to order the attorney general to comply with state election law that requires that the ballot title be fair and unbiased. “Election ballot titles should be neutral and not intentionally prejudice voters,” said ADF Senior Counsel Joseph Infranco. “The ballot title is argumentative and not impartial. The AG’s job is to apply the law in a way that’s fair to all Californians, not in a way that influences elections. We will immediately appeal the ruling because the purpose of this amendment is to protect marriage broadly as the union of one man and one woman.” The attorney general changed the ballot title on Proposition 8, also known as the California Marriage Protection Act, from “limit on marriage” to “eliminates right of same-sex couples to marry.” More than a million Californians signed official petitions containing the original ballot title language in order to put Proposition 8 on the November ballot. If approved by voters, Proposition 8 would add the following words to California’s constitution: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” In July, the California Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit filed by anti-amendment groups that sought to remove Proposition 8 from the ballot (www.telladf.org/news/story.aspx?cid=4611). The decision from the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, in Jansson v. Bowen is available at www.telladf.org/UserDocs/JanssonRuling.pdf."

California Federal Court Rejects Challenge to Federal Defense of Marriage Act-"Orange County, CA – During a court hearing yesterday, federal district court Judge David O. Carter announced that he is dismissing a last-ditch effort by “same-sex marriage” proponents to overturn the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The case is Smelt v. Orange County, and it is one of the last remaining challenges to DOMA. Liberty Counsel intervened in this case on behalf of Campaign for California Families in 2004, in order to protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman and to defend DOMA."

Florida Same Sex Marriage

Same-Sex Marriage Group Distorts Truth About Florida Marriage Protection Amendment-"Florida Red and Blue, a political committee and front group for a coalition of homosexual rights groups opposing Amendment 2 (the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment), will air a false television ad in an attempt to mislead and scare senior citizens. The ad will be aired on Florida stations during the Democratic National Convention. The campaign commercial asserts that the marriage amendment is an attempt by the government to interfere "into our private lives." Other parts of the ad state that defeating Amendment 2 would "keep government out of our private lives” and that "personal marriage issues should be decided by you, your family and clergy, not by the government." The ad even claims the amendment will cause senior citizens to lose benefits. Amendment 2 allows the people, rather than activist judges, to decide how marriage will be defined in Florida. The amendment is necessary because same-sex marriage advocates filed eight separate lawsuits in 2004 seeking to have the courts sanction same-sex marriage. In response to these lawsuits, a broad-based movement began to gather signatures to place Amendment 2 on the ballot and place the definition of marriage in the Florida Constitution. The campaign commercial also states that "Democrats are united against Amendment 2 in Florida." Over three quarters of a million Florida voters signed a citizen’s initiative petition to get the marriage amendment on the ballot. Well over 33% of those Floridians who signed the petition are registered Democrats. The recent June 3, 2008, Quinnipiac Florida poll demonstrates that a significant 45% of Democratic voters in Florida support Amendment 2. Florida Red and Blue does not represent the majority of Floridians. Mathew Staver, Founder of Liberty Counsel and Dean of Liberty University School of Law, successfully argued in favor of Amendment 2 at the Florida Supreme Court against the ACLU. In a 7-0 ruling, the Florida Supreme Court ruled that Amendment 2 is about the "singular subject" of marriage and that the effect of the amendment does nothing new but merely protects something old by placing the definition of marriage in the state constitution. Staver commented on the misleading television ad: "Traditional marriage resonates with voters because it reflects the values of the majority. Radical homosexual groups opposed to traditional marriage know their only chance of defeating Amendment 2 is to resort to lies and scare tactics. Support for traditional marriage transcends political parties. It is a universally shared value."

Arkansas Ballot Initiative

Married moms and dads — what a novel concept-"“The measure doesn’t distinguish between homosexuals or heterosexuals,” he points out. “It simply says if you’re cohabitating with a sexual partner out of wedlock, then you are not allowed to adopt a child or be a foster parent in the state of Arkansas.”

Why voting your values at the state level is key..

Gay Activist Packs Message for Denver-"One of the country's wealthiest gay activists is in Denver unveiling his national strategy. Tim Gill's message is to support pro-gay state lawmakers and eliminate the others...."Every advance in gay rights has been made at the state level," he said....In 2004, he helped Democrats seize control of the Colorado statehouse for the first time in 30 years. A slew of gay-friendly laws followed. In 2006, he orchestrated $15 million worth of donations to favored candidates and causes across the country. The payoff: Wins in 50 of 70 targeted campaigns, and power changes in four statehouses. But despite his success, Gill likes to stay under the radar. He rarely grants interviews or speaks in public...."The Republican party is controlled by a bunch of bigots and the only way the bigots are going to learn is if we take their power away from them," he added. "What is the very most important thing you can do is go back and support those pro-gay state legislators, eliminate the anti-gay state legislators." Gill urged the delegates to stretch their dollars by giving to pro-gay lawmakers in rural states. "Just a little bit of money goes a long way. I'll tell you that $500 or $1000 in Wyoming goes a lot farther than $500 or $1000 in LA where it probably doesn't even buy a bottle of wine," he said. Perhaps even more candidly, he acknowledged some frustration with his inability, so far, to defeat Colorado Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave. Musgrave sponsored the Federal Marriage Amendment....Gill did cite one state where he's working right now: New York. There, as CBN News previously reported, many expect the Democrats to take control of both chambers this fall, paving the way for a gay marriage bill. But Gill kept quiet about other states, and refused to talk with CBN News."- See his entire speech Tim Gill Talks Gay Rights to Dems. See The "Campaign Ads" Trap.

Obama for Same-Sex Marriage?

Obama Backs Same-Sex "Marriage"-"In recent weeks, there has been a spate of stories suggesting that Barack Obama has begun moving to the center. On issues ranging from the Iraq war to terrorist surveillance to gun control, Obama has been moderating some of his previous liberal positions. But there is at least one issue on which Obama has been moving steadily to the left. In fact, it's now fair to say it-Barack Obama supports same-sex "marriage." All that's left is for him to admit it. You may not find a statement anywhere from Obama in which he comes right out and says, "I support same-sex marriage." In fact, on March 2, Obama said, "I will tell you that I don't believe in gay marriage . . . . I believe in civil unions . . . . [but] I don't think it should be called marriage." But when Obama says, "I don't believe in gay marriage," what is he really saying? The evidence suggests that he is not saying what most people would mean by that statement-namely, that there is good reason why marriage, in principle, ought to be defined as the union of one man and one woman...When the California Supreme Court legalized same-sex "marriage" in May, it would have been a perfect opportunity for Obama to display "centrist" credentials. To be consistent with his stated position on the issue, Obama should have condemned the court's decision, while endorsing the status quo of the generous "domestic partner" benefits already granted under state law. Instead, his campaign announced that Obama "respects the decision of the California Supreme Court. " Are there any policies safeguarding man-woman marriage that Obama will endorse? Not constitutional amendments, since he has declared, "I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states." What about the federal Defense of Marriage Act? This is the 1996 statute, signed into law by President Bill Clinton, which defined marriage for all purposes under federal law as the union of one man and one woman. It also declared that states would have no obligation to recognize same-sex "marriages" from other states. Obama favors complete repeal of this law, which would open the door for the federal government to recognize same-sex marriages in Massachusetts and California and grant domestic partner benefits to federal employees, and would in effect allow California to redefine marriage for the entire country."-An interesting skeptical read of Obama's position on gay marriage.
