Ten Persuasive Answers to the Question . . . "Why Not Gay Marriage?"

This is a 13 part reasoned series answering the question "Why Not Gay Marriage?". I will be on vacation with family and friends for some time so I am going to schedule 2 to 3 videos a blog a day while I am gone. Beginning today with introduction and the first video.

Introduction

An Analysis of Massachusetts Adoption Laws and the Closing of Catholic Charities Adoption Services-"In Part II, this Note discusses constitutional principles and developments concerning church and state separation as well as Massachusetts state principles of Establishment and Free Exercise. Part II then addresses Massachusetts adoption laws, specifically the roles played by religion and sexual orientation in the best interests of the child standard...Finally, Part III argues that an exemption for religious organizations in Massachusetts adoption laws would not violate current principles of the Establishment and Free Exercise Clauses. This Note suggests that by declining to provide an exemption for religious adoption agencies, the Massachusetts legislature has chosen to protect the interests of a small group of potential parents with only a state-created, and not fundamental, right to adoption. Ultimately, this Note concludes that, under the guise of promoting equality, Massachusetts has lost its most successful adoption agency and contravened the central principle of its enacted adoption laws: to serve the best interests of the child."

Friday Five: Thomas Atwood-"Catholic Charities of Boston has placed 720 children into adoptive families over the last 20 years. Now, a Massachusetts law requiring child-placement services to allow homosexuals to adopt has forced the organization to end its adoption program. Thomas Atwood, president and chief executive officer of the U.S. National Council for Adoption, said children are the victims when faith-based organizations are forced to choose between compromising their beliefs and closing their doors. 1. How do you respond to gay activists who claim they have the "right" to adopt?...2. How do "nondiscrimination" laws like the one in Massachusetts affect children?...3. Do you foresee the rest of the U.S. following Massachusetts' lead?...4. What is the best family structure for a child?...5. What can Christians do to help?.

Ireland

Ireland High Court Rules Against Gay 'Marriage' Citing Harm to Children: Refuses Recognition of Lesbian "Marriage" Staged in Canada-"The Ireland High Court yesterday rejected a lesbian couple's demand to have their Canadian "marriage" recognized in Ireland, in a landmark ruling closely watched by both sides of the international marriage debate. Justice Elizabeth Dunne decided against the claim of Dr. Katherine Zappone and Dr. Anne Louise Gilligan, who had argued that the State and the Revenue Commissioners had violated their constitutional rights by refusing to assess them for taxes as a married couple, the Irish Times reported yesterday. "Marriage was understood under the 1937 Constitution to be confined to persons of the opposite sex," Justice Dunne wrote in her lengthy ruling. "Having regard to the clear understanding of the meaning of marriage as set out in the numerous authorities opened to the Court from this jurisdiction and elsewhere, I do not see how marriage can be redefined by the Court to encompass same sex marriage."...The court further noted, however, that the marriage law was further justified by concerns with the 'welfare of children' since in the absence of good research, 'the State is entitled to adopt a cautious approach to changing the capacity to marry....Read the full Ireland High Court decision here:http://www.kalcase.org/KAL%20Zappone_v_Rev_Commrs_Judgement.doc"-12/15/2006. Spanish Gay Pride Marchers Charged With Insulting Catholics -"Marchers at the event carried a banner picturing Pope Benedict XVI on fire and calling him "chief of the inquisitors."

McDonald's

Those McFabulous rainbow arches-"under communist-tested, McDonald's-approved "hate speech" legislation, such as the so-called Employment Non-Discrimination Act, Christians and other business owners with traditional values would be forced – under penalty of law – to abandon sincerely held religious beliefs and adopt McDonald's own secular-humanist, moral-relativist view of right and wrong. In many cases, business owners would be persecuted, even if the business in question were expressly faith-based. This pits the government directly against the free exercise of religion and, for that reason, is unconstitutional on its face...."At McDonald's we respect and value everyone ... blah, blah, blah ... Diversity ... blah, blah ... Inclusion ... yada, yada ... We have a long and proud history of leadership ... blah, blah, (gag!)" You know the drill. However, when McDonald's steps up to the mic to address the media, a veritable rainbow of true colors is revealed....While referring to customers with traditional family values, spokesman Bill Whitman regurgitated this little McNugget to the Washington Post: "Hatred has no place in our culture." Nice job, Bill. I'm sure the hundreds of millions of customers you've just smacked down with this little insult are itchin' for a Happy Meal now....Get it? If you happen to support the historical definition of marriage – which is, and has always been male-female – then you're a drooling, inbred hatemonger. This kind of rhetoric is right out of the left's PC handbook. It's an intellectually bankrupt copout intended to avoid legitimate debate....So, truth is McDonald's definition of "diversity" doesn't really mean diversity after all. The company has wholeheartedly bought into that euphemistic notion of "diversity" pushed by liberal elites – a paradoxical model for "inclusion" that only swings one way. So when you hear McDonald's talk about "diversity," what they're really feeding you is warmed-over, anti-Christian bigotry in a cheap, thin wrapper. Diversity is as diversity does, and McDonald's brand of diversity has them in a real pickle. I suspect if the king of burgers were alive today, McDonald's founder Ray Kroc would be some kind of flame-broilin' ticked-off."
