Good News: Dr. Dobson Inducted into Radio Hall of Fame on Saturday-"Dr. James Dobson and his "Focus on the Family" radio broadcast officially will be inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame on Saturday. Gay activists are planning to protest the Chicago event.
Every year, the Radio Hall of Fame Steering Committee, which includes radio executives, academicians, trade journalists and members of the National Association of Broadcasters, chooses nominees based on recommendations from the public.
This year, the committee nominated Dr. Dobson and "Focus on the Family" in the “national active” category, alongside Bob Costas, Dr. Laura Schlessinger and the notorious Howard Stern. To qualify, a broadcaster must have contributed to the radio industry on a national level for at least 10 years.
For the first time, voting was opened to the public. According to the Hall of Fame, more than 50,000 people voted for "Focus on the Family" — the largest vote total in the group's history.
"It is quite an honor, when you consider the long and groundbreaking history of radio, to become the first religiously themed show to earn entry to the hall," said Gary Schneeberger, vice president of media and public relations at Focus on the Family Action.
"This award recognizes the 32 years Dr. Dobson and 'Focus on the Family' have devoted to helping millions of families thrive — guiding men and women in how to navigate their marriages, raise their children and walk out their Christian faith."
