The pharmaceutical industry in America opposes it even though it has bi-partisan support. Basically the amendment would allow importation of pharmaceutical drugs from other nations but the pharmaceutical industry in America has endorsed this health care reform promising to cut prices by 80 billion dollars and many believe the only reason why they are willing to do this is a deal made with the current administration to keep cheaper drugs from being imported from Canada or other countries.
