Obama said, "Those who speak out against stem cell research may be rooted in admirable conviction about the sacredness of life, but so are the parents of a child with juvenile diabetes who are convinced that their son’s or daughter’s hardships can be relieved,"
However, just last month, new research using adult stem cells slowed further insulin independence for Type 1 diabetes patients.
The study, led by Richard Burt of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, is the second in the last two years to show significant progress in diabetes using the noncontroversial stem cells.
It showed patients receiving injections with adult stem cells were able to go as long as four years without having to rely on insulin shots."

Now considering that Obama has been the most anti-life and non centrist president on the issue of abortion see video below and/or Obama's first 100 days reveal Obama is nowhere close to the middle on social issues and especially abortion. do you think we need a little more then talk. Also, consider No middle ground from Obama on the issue of abortion anywhere...Now Major Pro-Life groups had no seat at Health Care Summit and more and even if he does something centrist may the glory go to those who care for the unborn and conscience rights of those who do so too and sent over 340,000 comments to government web site concerning this issue.



LifeNews.com reports that Obama says he seeks abortion conscience rights for health care professionals and at the same time he is repealing a law that would strengthen conscience rights. Kind of like Obama saying his view on marriage is between a man and a woman but at the same time seeks to repeal the bipartisan Defense of Marriage act. Or that he seeks to reduce abortions and yet is the biggest funder of them and promoter of the rights of women to destroy the rights of the unborn.

Obama said, "Let’s honor the conscience of those who disagree with abortion, and draft a sensible conscience clause, and make sure that all of our health care policies are grounded in clear ethics and sound science, as well as respect for the equality of women," Obama said.
But, in listening to Obama's speech, bioethics attorney Wesley J. Smith was struck by Obama's esurient desire to be seen as moderate on abortion yet taking hypocritical actions.
"I was reminded of how adept Obama is in saying one thing while doing just the opposite; such as claiming in his speech to support a conscience clause for health professionals on the issue of abortion," he said.
"Obama--or at least his administration (is there a difference?) plans to revoke the Bush conscience clause, not revise it. That is hardly honoring heterodox thinkers' consciences," Smith added.
Although Obama has yet to overturn the conscience protections Bush put into place for the doctors and physicians Obama said today he seeks to protect, Smith isn't holding his breath that Obama will change course.
"Perhaps the administration will change from the radical course it has steered to date on these important matters. More likely, Obama will continue to say moderate things--to great cheering in the media--while his administration acts immoderately," he says.
Smith says Obama has had the opportunity "to steer a moderate course ... and he rejected the moderate course."
"Which brings to mind another trite old saying; talk is cheap," Smith concluded."

We will believe it when we see it.

School District Seeks to Re-Educate "Homophobic" Kindergartners

City: Alameda, CA

The Alameda Board of Education will consider supplemental curriculum tonight which seeks to eradicate "homophobia" from students barely old enough to write their names.

The curriculum is being touted by officials in the Alameda Unified School District as necessary to "create safe schools for all children," but it focuses almost exclusively on sexual orientation and gender identity. In a recent question and answer memo defending the proposed curriculum, the District lamented that "homophobia is still very much present in many of our schools and communities" and insisted that "students of all ages must be given an opportunity to learn that the words 'gay' and 'lesbian' are adjectives that should be used with respect to describe people in their community, not words used in a negative way. . ." The District further claimed that "using anti-gay slurs starts as early as kindergarten," and therefore all students must be drilled with positive portrayals of gays, lesbians and transgender people.

PJI staff attorneys have written to the Board in opposition to the curriculum and will address the Board meeting to point out that the so-called "Safe Schools" effort does nothing to counter the most significant sources of school bullying and harassment, such as race, religion, gender, physical appearance, and socioeconomic status. Instead, the supplemental curriculum focuses exclusively on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute, commented, "It is both risky and wrong to ignore the real causes of school bullying in favor of a politically correct propaganda program. If anyone needs a lesson against name-calling, it is those who are labeling our kindergartners as homophobic."

"Nowhere at anytime did it give any protection for children being bullied because of their faith, their religion, their size, their race, ethnicity," he points out. "It is only going to give this special anti-bullying protection for homosexuals and transsexuals."

Minnesota Legislature, Governor Pawlenty Commit to Funding Abortion Alternatives

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Thanks to the Minnesota legislature and pro-life Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, the state's Positive Alternatives program remains fully funded for the 2009-2010 biennium. The program has been credited with helping lower the number of abortions done on poor women in the state.
Positive Alternatives funding was expected to be cut due to the state budget shortfall.
However, both the state House and Senate recommended full funding for Positive Alternatives in their Health and Human Services bills and Pawlenty signed the bill into law Thursday night.
Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life worked tirelessly with legislators of both parties to ensure that pregnant girls and women would continue to find the help they need to bring their pregnancies to term through organizations funded by the Positive Alternatives grant program.
“Positive Alternatives is one of Minnesota’s most essential and successful programs for women,” MCCL director Scott Fischbach told LifeNews.com.
“This modest program offers a lifeline to women in need every day across the state, and MCCL is pleased that lawmakers—both Democrats and Republicans—agreed on the importance of keeping funding intact," he said.
Positive Alternatives was passed by the Minnesota legislature in 2005 to establish a grant program through the Minnesota Department of Health.


Grants are given to life-affirming organizations offering essential services in the following areas: medical attention for the woman and the unborn child, nutritional services, housing assistance, adoption services, education and employment assistance, child care assistance, and parenting education and support services.
A total of 37 organizations received $4.7 million in grants in 2006. The second round of grants ($4.7 million) was awarded to 31 grantees in July 2008.
More than 12,000 women were helped during the first two years of the grant program and Fischbach told LifeNews.com their stories reveal that Positive Alternatives is fulfilling a critical need in the lives of women.
“Minnesota women and their unborn babies now have a strong safety net beneath them, thanks to Positive Alternatives,” Fischbach said. “This bipartisan, consensus program is empowering thousands of women to choose life for their unborn children.”
An April report showed fewer abortions and less tax money spent on abortions in the state thanks to the program.
Taxpayers have been forced to pay for abortions since the Minnesota Supreme Court’s 1995 Doe v. Gomez ruling found a “right” to abortion in the Minnesota Constitution and also required taxpayers to fund abortions for low-income women.
Even as total abortions decline, the report finds Planned Parenthood has increased the number of abortions it performs on low-income women. The 10 percent increase in 2007 is part of a 125 percent increase since 2000 that Fischbach says demonstrates that Planned Parenthood targets poor women for abortion.
“It is long past time for Planned Parenthood to end its exploitation of low-income and minority women,” Fischbach said.
Since the Doe v. Gomez ruling, taxpayers have paid $14,126,689 for a total of 47,115 abortion procedure claims. Prior to the court decision, taxpayers were charged about $7,000 per year for about 23 abortions in the rare cases in which the state paid for abortions.
MCCL is working to pass a ban on taxpayer funded abortion but has had a tough road in the legislature.

U.N. committees charged with offering guidance on the obligations incumbent upon nations that have ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women ("CEDAW") and the Convention on the Rights of the Child ("CRC") are, instead, advancing a radical agenda harmful to the best interests of societies and states, under the cover of providing review and recommendations. In doing so, these U.N. committees are decisively undermining the sovereignty of state parties to the treaties in matters that have always been within the domestic jurisdiction of individual states to decide. These committees have recommended -
Legalizing prostitution and elevating it to the status of a profession

Diminishing the legal protection of freedom of conscience

Diminishing parental guidance for teenagers' emerging sexuality

Promoting access to abortion, contraception, and other "medical" services for children without parental consent

Promoting contraceptive use without regard to its social consequences

Promoting abortion under the fiction of an international law mandate

Demeaning traditional motherhood and those who support it

Promoting professional child care for newborns

Equating mild spanking of children by their parents with serious physical abuse

Objecting to the influence of religion on society

Objecting to the protection of rights of religious minorities

If these recommendations were followed, marriage and family would be further undermined, as would religious freedom.

RESOLUTION

Affirming the rich spiritual and religious history of our Nation’s founding and subsequent history and expressing support for designation of the first week in May as ‘America’s Spiritual Heritage Week’ for the appreciation of and education on America’s history of religious faith.

Whereas religious faith was not only important in official American life during the periods of discovery, exploration, colonization, and growth but has also been acknowledged and incorporated into all 3 branches of the Federal Government from their very beginning;

Whereas the Supreme Court of the United States affirmed this self-evident fact in a unanimous ruling declaring ‘This is a religious people . . . From the discovery of this continent to the present hour, there is a single voice making this affirmation’;

Whereas political scientists have documented that the most frequently cited source in the political period known as The Founding Era was the Bible;

Whereas the first act of America’s first Congress in 1774 was to ask a minister to open with prayer and to lead Congress in the reading of 4 chapters of the Bible;

Whereas Congress regularly attended church and Divine service together en masse;

Whereas throughout the American Founding, Congress frequently appropriated money for missionaries and for religious instruction, a practice that Congress repeated for decades after the passage of the Constitution and the First Amendment;

Whereas in 1776, Congress approved the Declaration of Independence with its 4 direct religious acknowledgments referring to God as the Creator (‘All people are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’), the Lawgiver (‘the laws of nature and nature’s God’), the Judge (‘appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world’), and the Protector (‘with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence’);

Whereas upon approving the Declaration of Independence, John Adams declared that the Fourth of July ‘ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty’;

Whereas 4 days after approving the Declaration, the Liberty Bell was rung;

Whereas the Liberty Bell was named for the Biblical inscription from Leviticus 25:10 emblazoned around it: ‘Proclaim liberty throughout the land, to all the inhabitants thereof’;

Whereas in 1777, Congress, facing a National shortage of ‘Bibles for our schools, and families, and for the public worship of God in our churches,’ announced that they ‘desired to have a Bible printed under their care & by their encouragement’ and therefore ordered 20,000 copies of the Bible to be imported ‘into the different ports of the States of the Union’;

Whereas in 1782, Congress pursued a plan to print a Bible that would be ‘a neat edition of the Holy Scriptures for the use of schools’ and therefore approved the production of the first English language Bible printed in America that contained the congressional endorsement that ‘the United States in Congress assembled . . . recommend this edition of the Bible to the inhabitants of the United States’;

Whereas in 1782, Congress adopted (and has reaffirmed on numerous subsequent occasions) the National Seal with its Latin motto ‘Annuit Coeptis,’ meaning ‘God has favored our undertakings,’ along with the eye of Providence in a triangle over a pyramid, the eye and the motto ‘allude to the many signal interpositions of Providence in favor of the American cause’;

Whereas the 1783 Treaty of Paris that officially endied the Revolution and established America as an independent begins with the appellation ‘In the name of the most holy and undivided Trinity’;

Whereas in 1787, at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin declared, ‘God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? . . . Without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel’;

Whereas the delegates to the Constitutional Convention concluded their work by in effect placing a religious punctuation mark at the end of the Constitution in the Attestation Clause, noting not only that they had completed the work with ‘the unanimous consent of the States present’ but they had done so ‘in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven’;

Whereas James Madison declared that he saw the finished Constitution as a product of ‘the finger of that Almighty Hand which has been so frequently and signally extended to our relief in the critical stages of the Revolution,’ and George Washington viewed it as ‘little short of a miracle,’ and Benjamin Franklin believed that its writing had been ‘influenced, guided, and governed by that omnipotent, omnipresent, and beneficent Ruler, in Whom all inferior spirits live, and move, and have their being’;

Whereas, from 1787 to 1788, State conventions to ratify the United States Constitution not only began with prayer but even met in church buildings;

Whereas in 1795, during construction of the Capitol, a practice was instituted whereby ‘public worship is now regularly administered at the Capitol, every Sunday morning, at 11 o’clock’;

Whereas in 1789, the first Federal Congress, the Congress that framed the Bill of Rights, including the First Amendment, appropriated Federal funds to pay chaplains to pray at the opening of all sessions, a practice that has continued to this day, with Congress not only funding its congressional chaplains but also the salaries and operations of more than 4,500 military chaplains;

Whereas in 1789, Congress, in the midst of framing the Bill of Rights and the First Amendment, passed the first Federal law touching education, declaring that ‘Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged’;

Whereas in 1789, on the same day that Congress finished drafting the First Amendment, it requested President Washington to declare a National day of prayer and thanksgiving, resulting in the first Federal official Thanksgiving proclamation that declared ‘it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor’;

Whereas in 1800, Congress enacted naval regulations requiring that Divine service be performed twice every day aboard ‘all ships and vessels in the navy,’ with a sermon preached each Sunday;

Whereas in 1800, Congress approved the use of the just-completed Capitol structure as a church building, with Divine services to be held each Sunday in the Hall of the House, alternately administered by the House and Senate chaplains;

Whereas in 1853, Congress declared that congressional chaplains have a ‘duty . . . to conduct religious services weekly in the Hall of the House of Representatives’;

Whereas by 1867, the church at the Capitol was the largest church in Washington, DC, with up to 2,000 people a week attending Sunday service in the Hall of the House;

Whereas by 1815, over 2,000 official governmental calls to prayer had been issued at both the State and the Federal levels, with thousands more issued since 1815;

Whereas in 1853, the United States Senate declared that the Founding Fathers ‘had no fear or jealousy of religion itself, nor did they wish to see us an irreligious people . . . they did not intend to spread over all the public authorities and the whole public action of the nation the dead and revolting spectacle of atheistical apathy’;

Whereas in 1854, the United States House of Representatives declared ‘It [religion] must be considered as the foundation on which the whole structure rests . . . Christianity; in its general principles, is the great conservative element on which we must rely for the purity and permanence of free institutions’;

Whereas in 1864, by law Congress added ‘In God We Trust’ to American coinage;

Whereas in 1864, Congress passed an act authorizing each State to display statues of 2 of its heroes in the United States Capitol, resulting in numerous statues of noted Christian clergymen and leaders at the Capitol, including Gospel ministers such as the Revs. James A. Garfield, John Peter Muhlenberg, Jonathan Trumbull, Roger Williams, Jason Lee, Marcus Whitman, and Martin Luther King Jr., Gospel theologians such as Roger Sherman, Catholic priests such as Father Damien, Jacques Marquette, Eusebio Kino, and Junipero Serra, Catholic nuns such as Mother Joseph, and numerous other religious leaders;

Whereas in 1870, the Federal Government made Christmas (a recognition of the birth of Christ, an event described by the U.S. Supreme Court as ‘acknowledged in the Western World for 20 centuries, and in this country by the people, the Executive Branch, Congress, and the courts for 2 centuries’) and Thanksgiving as official holidays;

Whereas, beginning in 1904 and continuing for the next half-century, the Federal Gvernment printed and distributed The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth for the use of Members of Congress because of the important teachings it contained;

Whereas in 1931, Congress by law adopted the Star-Spangled Banner as the official National Anthem, with its phrases such as ‘may the Heav’n-rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation,’ and ‘this be our motto, ‘In God is our trust!’;

Whereas in 1954, Congress by law added the phrase ‘one nation under God’ to the Pledge of Allegiance;

Whereas in 1954, a special Congressional Prayer Room was added to the Capitol with a kneeling bench, an altar, an open Bible, an inspiring stained-glass window with George Washington kneeling in prayer, the declaration of Psalm 16:1: ‘Preserve me, O God, for in Thee do I put my trust,’ and the phrase ‘This Nation Under God’ displayed above the kneeling, prayerful Washington;

Whereas in 1956, Congress by law made ‘In God We Trust’ the National Motto, and added the phrase to American currency;

Whereas the constitutions of each of the 50 States, either in the preamble or body, explicitly recognize or express gratitude to God;

Whereas America’s first Presidential Inauguration incorporated 7 specific religious activities, including--

(1) the use of the Bible to administer the oath;

(2) affirming the religious nature of the oath by the adding the prayer ‘So help me God!’ to the oath;

(3) inaugural prayers offered by the President;

(4) religious content in the inaugural address;

(5) civil leaders calling the people to prayer or acknowledgment of God;

(6) inaugural worship services attended en masse by Congress as an official part of congressional activities; and

(7) clergy-led inaugural prayers, activities which have been replicated in whole or part by every subsequent President;

Whereas President George Washington declared ‘Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports’;

Whereas President John Adams, one of only 2 signers of the Bill of Rights and First Amendment, declared ‘As the safety and prosperity of nations ultimately and essentially depend on the protection and the blessing of Almighty God, and the national acknowledgment of this truth is not only an indispensable duty which the people owe to Him’;

Whereas President Jefferson not only attended Divine services at the Capitol throughout his presidency and had the Marine Band play at the services, but during his administration church services were also begun in the War Department and the Treasury Department, thus allowing worshippers on any given Sunday the choice to attend church at either the United States Capitol, the War Department, or the Treasury Department if they so desired;

Whereas Thomas Jefferson urged local governments to make land available specifically for Christian purposes, provided Federal funding for missionary work among Indian tribes, and declared that religious schools would receive ‘the patronage of the government’;

Whereas President Andrew Jackson declared that the Bible ‘is the rock on which our Republic rests’;

Whereas President Abraham Lincoln declared that the Bible ‘is the best gift God has given to men . . . But for it, we could not know right from wrong’

Whereas President William McKinley declared that ‘Our faith teaches us that there is no safer reliance than upon the God of our fathers, Who has so singularly favored the American people in every national trial and Who will not forsake us so long as we obey His commandments and walk humbly in His footsteps’;

Whereas President Teddy Roosevelt declared ‘The Decalogue and the Golden Rule must stand as the foundation of every successful effort to better either our social or our political life’;

Whereas President Woodrow Wilson declared that ‘America was born to exemplify that devotion to the elements of righteousness which are derived from the revelations of Holy Scripture’;

Whereas President Herbert Hoover declared that ‘American life is builded, and can alone survive, upon . . . [the] fundamental philosophy announced by the Savior nineteen centuries ago’;

Whereas President Franklin D. Roosevelt not only led the Nation in a 6 minute prayer during D-Day on June 6, 1944, but he also declared that ‘If we will not prepare to give all that we have and all that we are to preserve Christian civilization in our land, we shall go to destruction’;

Whereas President Harry S. Truman declared that ‘The fundamental basis of this Nation’s law was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings which we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul’;

Whereas President Harry S. Truman told a group touring Washington, DC, that ‘You will see, as you make your rounds, that this Nation was established by men who believed in God. . . . You will see the evidence of this deep religious faith on every hand’;

Whereas President Dwight D. Eisenhower declared that ‘Without God there could be no American form of government, nor an American way of life. Recognition of the Supreme Being is the first, the most basic, expression of Americanism. Thus, the founding fathers of America saw it, and thus with God’s help, it will continue to be’ in a declaration later repeated with approval by President Gerald Ford;

Whereas President John F. Kennedy declared that ‘The rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God’;

Whereas President Ronald Reagan, after noting ‘The Congress of the United States, in recognition of the unique contribution of the Bible in shaping the history and character of this Nation and so many of its citizens, has . . . requested the President to designate the year 1983 as the ‘Year of the Bible’, officially declared 1983 as ‘The Year of the Bible’;

Whereas every other President has similarly recognized the role of God and religious faith in the public life of America;

Whereas all sessions of the United States Supreme Court begin with the Court’s Marshal announcing, ‘God save the United States and this honorable court’;

Whereas a regular and integral part of official activities in the Federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court, was the inclusion of prayer by a minister of the Gospel;

Whereas the United States Supreme Court has declared throughout the course of our Nation’s history that the United States is ‘a Christian country’, ‘a Christian nation’, ‘a Christian people’, ‘a religious people whose institutions presuppose a Supreme Being’, and that ‘we cannot read into the Bill of Rights a philosophy of hostility to religion’;

Whereas Justice John Jay, an author of the Federalist Papers and original Justice of the United States Supreme Court, urged ‘The most effectual means of securing the continuance of our civil and religious liberties is always to remember with reverence and gratitude the Source from which they flow’;

Whereas Justice James Wilson, a signer of the Constitution, declared that ‘Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is Divine . . . Far from being rivals or enemies, religion and law are twin sisters, friends, and mutual assistants’;

Whereas Justice William Paterson, a signer of the Constitution, declared that ‘Religion and morality . . . [are] necessary to good government, good order, and good laws’;

Whereas President George Washington, who passed into law the first legal acts organizing the Federal judiciary, asked, ‘where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths in the courts of justice?’;

Whereas some of the most important monuments, buildings, and landmarks in Washington, DC, include religious words, symbols, and imagery;

Whereas in the United States Capitol the declaration ‘In God We Trust’ is prominently displayed in both the United States House and Senate Chambers;

Whereas around the top of the walls in the House Chamber appear images of 23 great lawgivers from across the centuries, but Moses (the lawgiver, who--according to the Bible--originally received the law from God,) is the only lawgiver honored with a full face view, looking down on the proceedings of the House;

Whereas religious artwork is found throughout the United States Capitol, including in the Rotunda where the prayer service of Christopher Columbus, the Baptism of Pocahontas, and the prayer and Bible study of the Pilgrims are all prominently displayed; in the Cox Corridor of the Capitol where the words ‘America! God shed His grace on thee’ are inscribed; at the east Senate entrance with the words ‘Annuit Coeptis’ which is Latin for ‘God has favored our undertakings’; and in numerous other locations;

Whereas images of the Ten Commandments are found in many Federal buildings across Washington, DC, including in bronze in the floor of the National Archives; in a bronze statue of Moses in the Main Reading Room of the Library of Congress; in numerous locations at the U.S. Supreme Court, including in the frieze above the Justices, the oak door at the rear of the Chamber, the gable apex, and in dozens of locations on the bronze latticework surrounding the Supreme Court Bar seating;

Whereas in the Washington Monument not only are numerous Bible verses and religious acknowledgments carved on memorial blocks in the walls, including the phrases: ‘Holiness to the Lord’ (Exodus 28:26, 30:30, Isaiah 23:18, Zechariah 14:20), ‘Search the Scriptures’ (John 5:39), ‘The memory of the just is blessed’ (Proverbs 10:7), ‘May Heaven to this Union continue its beneficence’, and ‘In God We Trust’, but the Latin inscription Laus Deo meaning ‘Praise be to God’ is engraved on the monument’s capstone;

Whereas of the 5 areas inside the Jefferson Memorial into which Jefferson’s words have been carved, 4 are God-centered, including Jefferson’s declaration that ‘God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever’;

Whereas the Lincoln Memorial contains numerous acknowledgments of God and citations of Bible verses, including the declarations that ‘we here highly resolve that . . . this nation under God . . . shall not perish from the earth’; ‘The Almighty has His own purposes. ‘Woe unto the world because of offenses; for it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh’ (Matthew 18:7), ‘as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said ‘the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether’ (Psalms 19:9), ‘one day every valley shall be exalted and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh see it together’ (Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech, based on Isaiah 40:4-5);

Whereas in the Library of Congress, The Giant Bible of Mainz, and The Gutenberg Bible are on prominent permanent display and etched on the walls are Bible verses, including: ‘The light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not’ (John 1:5), ‘Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom and with all thy getting, get understanding’ (Proverbs 4:7), ‘What doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God’ (Micah 6:8), and ‘The heavens declare the Glory of God, and the firmament showeth His handiwork’ (Psalm 19:1);

Whereas numerous other of the most important American government leaders, institutions, monuments, buildings, and landmarks both openly acknowledge and incorporate religious words, symbols, and imagery into official venues;

Whereas such acknowledgments are even more frequent at the State and local level than at the Federal level, where thousands of such acknowledgments exist, and

Whereas the first week in May each year would be an appropriate week to designate as ‘America’s Spiritual Heritage Week’: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the United States House of Representatives--

(1) affirms the rich spiritual and diverse religious history of our Nation’s founding and subsequent history, including up to the current day;

(2) recognizes that the religious foundations of faith on which America was built are critical underpinnings of our Nation’s most valuable institutions and form the inseparable foundation for America’s representative processes, legal systems, and societal structures;

(3) rejects, in the strongest possible terms, any effort to remove, obscure, or purposely omit such history from our Nation’s public buildings and educational resources; and

(4) expresses support for designation of a ‘America’s Spiritual Heritage Week’ every year for the appreciation of and education on America’s history of religious faith."

Church tells nurses: be open about faith

There is nothing wrong with offering to pray for a patient, a leading clergyman has told a gathering of nurses.

It is a “mistake” for healthcare professionals to keep their faith to themselves but “not surprising”, said the Very Revd John Hall, the Dean of Westminster.

He was speaking to around 2,000 nurses at the annual Florence Nightingale service at Westminster Abbey in London.

“Discussion of spiritual matters and of faith is often strange to people,” he said. “We tend to keep our spiritual motivation and our faith to ourselves. That is a mistake but not surprising.

“We keep it to ourselves for fear of offending others or out of fear of contradiction or because we are unsure of the right language in which to express elusive concepts.

“And yet the human spirit and spiritual health is fundamental to healing and wholeness. So every health professional, every doctor, every nurse needs to be easy and familiar with the language of the spirit in order to express the almost inexpressible.

“And I should say that offering to pray for someone is not a sin and should not be regarded as an offence.”

Dr Hall’s comments followed the case of Christian nurse Caroline Petrie, who was suspended after she offered to pray for a patient.

Her employers alleged that her offer had broken ‘equality and diversity’ rules. Mrs Petrie was reinstated following widespread media coverage of her situation."

COVINA, Calif. — After receiving assistance from Alliance Defense Fund attorneys, students at a Royal Oak Middle School were allowed to observe the National Day of Prayer Thursday. Students in the Spiritual Place of Teens, or SPOT, club were initially told by school officials that they would have to change the name of the event and that they would not be permitted to advertise with flyers or posters on campus.

“Christian students shouldn’t be discriminated against for expressing their beliefs,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel David Cortman. “The so-called ‘separation of church and state’ does not permit school officials to silence students who wish to advertise or observe the National Day of Prayer. We are pleased that school officials chose to recognize and honor students’ constitutional rights by allowing them to participate in this event.”

Charter Oak School District officials initially told SPOT club members that they would have to refer to the National Day of Prayer as the “National Day of Reflection,” and prohibited them from displaying materials advertising the event on campus. On Thursday, approximately 60 students and 30 adults gathered for prayer around the flagpole before the start of school in support of the NDP.

ADF attorneys sent a letter to school officials Friday, asking them to drop existing unconstitutional policies which serve to silence Christian students. The policies restrict the rights of Christian students to advertise events, access meeting space, and talk to other students about their faith.

ADF attorneys are presently defending the National Day of Prayer Task Force and its chairperson, Shirley Dobson, in a federal lawsuit brought by the Freedom From Religion Foundation to halt the observance of the annual event.

ADF attorneys secure consent order, road to settlement

ATLANTA — The Alliance Defense Fund and allied attorneys secured a consent order and partial dismissal Thursday on behalf of Kingdom First Ministries in a lawsuit against the city of Atlanta, which has entered into a settlement with the church. The city has agreed to change its unconstitutional ordinance that put undue and burdensome restrictions upon the church, nearly forcing it to permanently close its doors.

“Zoning restrictions should not be designed by a city to discriminate against churches,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel David Cortman, who is serving as local counsel in the case. “We are pleased with the city’s decision to allow Kingdom First to freely worship in its facility. The city now recognizes that federal law does not permit it to put its desire for property tax revenue above a church’s right to meet in a facility it rightfully occupies.”

Kingdom First Ministries leased property in November 2007 in an area of Atlanta’s West End that was zoned for churches. While applying for a business license the next month, the church was told the area had been rezoned and that therefore the church must apply for a special use permit. The church applied for the permit, but the city subsequently denied it.

“Kingdom First’s property was illegally zoned to exclude churches by the city of Atlanta,” said ADF-allied attorney John Mauck, of the Chicago law firm Mauck & Baker, LLC. “But we are grateful that the city’s attorneys were eager to rectify the unlawful situation once it was brought to their attention by allowing the church to meet, changing the ordinance, and providing compensation for its damages.”

Kingdom First spent thousands of dollars to lease and furnish its West End building. With the severe drop in attendance at the substandard facility it was forced to use for nearly a year after it began leasing the building, the church had to cancel most of its ministries and was on the verge of shutting down.

In October 2008, ADF attorneys were issued a previous consent order, which allowed the church to open its doors after nearly a year of the city’s resistance.

ADF attorneys sent letter persuading officials to recognize constitutional right to wear signage, distribute literature expressing faith

NORFOLK, Va. Two Christians barred from wearing signs that expressed their faith during a local celebration will no longer face those restrictions. After Alliance Defense Fund attorneys sent a letter to city officials clarifying the constitutional right to religious free speech, the city agreed to revise a policy which prohibits Christians from engaging in some forms of public speech during the annual Norfolk Harborfest event, including wearing sandwich boards and the distributing religious literature.

“Christians shouldn’t be discriminated against for expressing their beliefs,” said ADF Senior Counsel Nate Kellum. “Christians are not required to request permission from the government before exercising their First Amendment rights. We are pleased that Norfolk officials have agreed to respect the constitutional rights of Christians citizens, and that they can now express their faith freely and without fear of harassment or arrest.”

On June 6, 2008, Tommy Pouchie and Mike Anderson went to Town Point Park, a public park located in downtown Norfolk, to express their religious beliefs through the use of signage, literature distribution, and dialogue. The date was chosen based on the occurrence of Norfolk’s Harborfest celebration, a free three-day event sponsored by the city of Norfolk and several other entities.

After the men began displaying sandwich signs with their religious message, a police officer approached and demanded that they remove the signs, stating that compliance would be the only way for the two to remain at the park. The men submitted to the officer out of fear of citation and arrest. They later learned that Harborfest rules also prohibit the distribution of religious literature without prior permission.

In a letter, Norfolk officials stated that Christians will now be permitted to express their faith without restriction during future Harborfest events, and that any permit requirements would be be based only on the size of a particular group.

China Honors Operation Blessing for Quake Efforts

"Operation Blessing has been in the quake zone since day one, helping in recovery and rebuilding. Now, Operation Blessing's work is getting national attention on the anniversary date."

China Takes Note

The accomplishment got the attention of China's state-run news agencies. Tuesday, during a prime-time anniversary special, CCTV, the main television network, will air a documentary featuring Operation Blessing's Yoajin project. Horan will be a guest on the show.

"This is so significant because hundreds of millions of Chinese people will for the first time get to see what Operation Blessing has done with our partnership to help the survivors of the earthquake," said James Xiao of Operation Blessing China.

Earlier in the week, Operation Blessing held a photo exhibit and press conference in Beijing highlighting the work in Yaojin. Members of the national media and several top government officials were there.

"I'm not just impressed that Operation Blessing built these houses but now they are engaging in the next phase of restoration by starting a chicken farm and piggery business in the village that will help sustain long-term recovery," said Qin Wei China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation.

Nothing But God

Li Zhaoxing, a senior member of China's foreign affairs team and a former ambassador to the U.S., hosted a dinner in honor of Operation Blessing. Operation Blessing is celebrating 10 years of humanitarian work in China this year.

Horan says the Yaojin project is one more example of Operation Blessing's long-term commitment to helping the people of China.

"The mayor of Yaojin put his hand on my shoulder and he said, we've never seen love like this," he said. "We don't understand it. It must be God. It can't be human."

White House Drops Obama Opposition to Defense of Marriage Act from Website

May 15, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Obama White House has removed from its website all references to a pledge made by the president to scrap the Bush administration's Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Under the heading of "civil rights" the White House website had originally proclaimed that "Obama also believes we need to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act." In addition, the site said that legislation should be enacted that would extend federal legal rights and benefits to same-sex partners "in civil unions or other legally recognized unions." The site specified that this included all of "the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status."
The passage about DOMA has now been completely removed, as has the specific reference to the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits. The site now says, "President Obama also continues to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and believes that our anti-discrimination employment laws should be expanded to include sexual orientation and gender identity. He supports full civil unions and federal rights for LGBT couples and opposes a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage."
DOMA was passed into law by President Clinton in September, 1996. It says that no state is required to "treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a marriage, even if the relationship is considered a marriage in another state." It also prohibits the federal government from treating same-sex relationships "as marriages for any purpose, even if concluded or recognized by one of the states."

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth asked, in regard to the changes on the White House website, "Is President Obama indicating that repealing a law that protects states from being forced to recognize out-of-state 'gay marriages' … is now a low priority for his administration?
"We hope so, given that support for traditional marriage, between a man and a woman, remains strong throughout the country."
Since its passage, DOMA has been under constant attack by homosexualist groups. In March this year, the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) filed a federal challenge based on the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution. At that time, Ethan Jacobs, writing for the New England homosexual newspaper Bay Windows, noted that the Obama administration had included calls for DOMA's repeal in a description of the civil rights agenda posted on the White House website on Inauguration Day.
Although Shin Inouye, a White House spokesman, declined at the time to say whether the government would move to defend the law, he reiterated Obama's commitment to repealing the law. He told Bay Windows, "The Department of Justice is studying this lawsuit. The President believes this country must realize its founding promise of equality by treating all its citizens with dignity and respect. He has made clear previously that he supports the full legislative repeal of DOMA."
However, it is unclear if the alterations on the White House website reflect a recent about-face in terms of the Obama Administration's former committment to repealing DOMA.
