Update, 3:30 p.m.: The Miller lead has shrunk again. The latest count minutes ago shows him leading Murkowski by 1,294 votes - 49,888 to 48,594. This is apparently after some 6096 votes have been counted cause before today the vote count was 47,027 to 45,359 favoring Miller by 1668 votes. Apparently today some 15000 will be counted so that means we have 9000 more to go but I also heard reports of 25,000+ that need to be counted. So it is either 9000 to 19000 more to go and in the fist 6000 the lead has been cut by 374 votes. If it keeps at this pace it will be awfully close but Miller barely. Update 04:04 PM: actually there are 25,000+ to be counted so there actually is 19000 or so to go and may not be fully counted till September 8.
As early as today new votes will be counted in the highly paid attention to race in Alaska between incumbent Lisa Murkowski and Palin backed challenger Joe Miller. The final results may be by the end of today.
Here is the latest from HotAir.com who has done a great job in keeping track of this race:
"Murkowski picked up 343 votes in early returns Tuesday. Tea Party Express favorite Miller had 48,051 votes to Murkowski’s 46,726. Miller had maintained a lead of 1,668 votes heading into Tuesday’s count, which narrowed to 1,325."
Update: Just as I published the post, the ADN updated with new numbers. The ballots from Miller’s stronghold in the Mat-Su Valley are now in and he’s increased his lead a bit — but not by as much as Hotline projected. On election day, he crushed Murkowski 62/38 in those districts. On the absentees and questioned ballots, he won … 52/48. He’s added a net 135 votes to lead by 1,460 now but it looks like Murkowski’s going to keep chipping away. More updates coming…"
Alaskans also voted on a ballot initiative that parental consent should be given to minors before having an abortion by a margin of 56% to 44%
