The only portion of this speech I applauded is the earmark veto and the end of his speech (see Did Capitalism or Jesus save the miners in Chile?). He sounded like Bush on the wars and South Sudan's success was also a result of Bush era foreign policy (see Obama: World is watching Sudan Referendum and says "The United States will not abandon the people of Darfur."). He can talk about reducing the debt and deficit all he wants but his opening remarks about "investments" or rather bigger Government and more spending lost all credibility to me on that issue. For more on that see President Obama points us in the right direction as he answers the question: Why should Americans trust Democrats to reduce government spending and debt? and Watch Paul Ryan's response to the President's State of the Union Address
Check out our President's address below and note the "investments" he wants to make but remember those "investments" is just more Government spending and programs. But also notice his move toward the right on earmarks (note though that Republicans beat him to it see Democrats out earmark Repulbicans $50 billion to $1 billion. No longer a bipartisan issue. and Breaking: Mitch McConnell announces support for earmark ban!!!) and his excellent ending to the speech. Earmarks are at about 51 minutes and in and his excellent conclusion is at about 1:02:00 to the end. Again an excellent conclusion...
