On Obama's 100 day land mark is reported the worst two consecutive quarters of GDP loss since 1947. Cost of Obama job creation is $5 million a job!!!

GDP Continues to Fall

CBNNews.com - The economy continued to shrink in the first three months of this year.

The gross domestic product fell at an annual rate of 6.1 percent in the first quarter according to the preliminary estimate from the government.

That is nearly as bad as the 6.3 percent decline at the end of last year.

Those are the worst two consecutive quarters since 1947."

The Foundry Blog at The Heritage Foundation made these comments concerning a question they would have liked to ask at Obama's press conference last night in a blog titled Morning Bell: The Question That Didn’t Get Asked. “Mr. President, if your administration is already claiming credit for jobs created in this economy, when can the American people start holding you accountable for all the jobs lost?” Obama caid that his $787 billion stimulus package "has already saved or created over 150,000 jobs." That equals over $5 million dollars a job SAVED OR created so far!!! But the Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported more than 1.2 million jobs lost since Obama took office. Obama always responds that he inherited this mess from the Bush administration. The AP fact checks this: "Congress controls the purse strings, not the president, and it was under Democratic control for Obama’s last two years as Illinois senator. Obama supported the emergency bailout package in President George W. Bush’s final months — a package Democratic leaders wanted to make bigger."

Market is responding poorly to the actions of Obama and congress after the first week of the signing of the stimulus bill?

It is interesting to note that Big Media has a hard time reporting the above but when it comes to the market responding positively the few times it has which is arguably because of other reasons like banks reporting profits and so forth they report it. See: ABC reports that the market responds positive to Obama's home plan after the Dow has dropped Obama action after Obama action...Pure Bias...

"Before this article on food and desserts in South Bend, I need to acknowledge that now (Tuesday night) is perhaps the worst time in my 5 years at Notre Dame to try to write an appetizing article. Alumni has in one week rallied $8.2 million to be withheld in donations to the University and Mary Ann Glendon who was to receive Notre Dame's highest award and speak at the commencement declined the award and speech as she "learned that "talking points" issued by Notre Dame in response to widespread criticism of its decision included two statements implying that my acceptance speech would somehow balance the event." 52 bishops and counting have listed themselve on a list in disapproval of this event and 347,000 and counting have signed in petition. Demonstration of awareness are being held now till the event on the 17th of May.

Obama's first 100 days reveal Obama is nowhere close to the middle on social issues and especially abortion.

Related: Here is link to 3 minute clip of Obama answering a reporters question during Obama's news conference last night on the issue of abortion and FOCA at CBNNews.com. It would be interesting to see a follow up question for him to explain the first 100 days on the issue of abortion. See below for more issues in which there has been no middle ground from the budgets to the stimulus package to abortion. This president thus far has been possibly the most unbipartisan president in a while. See President Obama has become the most divisive early job approval rating of any president....

Not to mention that not one Republican in the House supported Obama's stimulus package and received more bipartisan non support then support. See:Obama vs Lisa Murkowski in this weeks weekly address. But on the budget it gets worse. See: Weekly Address's from last week. Listen to the reasons why not one Republican has voted yes on this budget from Republicans themselves. and 3.5 Trillion dollar budget passes both House and Senate with no bipartisan support since not one Republican vote-Not even Republican Senator voted yes including Specter who recently changed to the democrat party. Both the stimulus package and the budget got more bipartisan non support then support. Notice all the talk about bipartisanship has gone out the window!!! And then to think that Big Media couldn't figure out the Tea Party and biased viewers against them. Tea Party's got more bipartisan support then Obama's stimulus and budget. Modesty is more than what you wear on the outside it's a reflection of one's beliefs and attitudes from the heart.

From daily email at American Vision..

Modesty Makes a Comeback

by Carol DeMar

“Trendy but Tasteful” is the catch phrase national chairwoman Brenda Sharman uses to describe the philosophy behind Pure Fashion, a developmental program for young women in grades eight through twelve. Training sessions cover the virtues of modesty, purity, and chastity but also include dos and don’ts of hair, make-up, and posture. Sharman states that “modesty is more than what you wear on the outside.” I agree. Modesty is a reflection of one’s beliefs and attitudes. Just as the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart (Matt. 15:18), what we wear reflects how we inwardly view our role as women and as Christians. Created in 1999 by a group of Atlanta mothers, Pure Fashion’s goal is helping young girls “live, behave and dress with a sense of dignity…and protect their innocence and purity.

Buying Into Modesty
Girls beg their mothers to buy them the latest fashions. Magazines, movies, and television bombard all of us with what we should wear and how we should act. Mom gives in to her daughter who becomes propagandized by the ad hype with how to be sexy, popular, or pretty, because Mom is weary of battling the clothing issue. It’s easier to hand over the money even if it means Susie dresses like some temptress. “And behold, a woman comes to meet him, dressed as a harlot and cunning of heart. She is boisterous and rebellious; her feet do not remain at home” (Prov. 7:10–11). Permitting daughters to encourage impure thoughts by their immodest clothing is sinful. Teach your daughter to walk in dignity as a child of the King.

Parents must combat the media machine that is continually thrusting anti-Christian behavior, dress, and attitudes upon us. An all out war is being fought for the minds and bodies of your children, seducing them with visual delights that entice and corrupt, not unlike weak Edmund succumbing to the tasty Turkish Delight offered by the White Witch in C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Constant parental vigilance is necessary to protect children from the onslaught of impropriety that assails them during their every waking hour.

Set standards and abide by them. Permitting a daughter to wear a dress that shouts “Easy!” misleads others into thinking that she may have loose morals. Fathers must participate in teaching modesty to their children. Fathers show how much they love their daughters by preventing them from appearing as harlots. Nixing your daughter’s dress choice because of its immodesty may cause her disappointment for a brief time but will show her how much Dad cares for her in the long run. Modesty begins in the heart, and it takes both parents working together training their daughter to live a godly life. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect” (Rom. 12:2).

Bra Straps Are Inappropriate Any Time
I am compelled to bring this up, because I am on bra strap overload—girls and women should never wear clothing where bra straps are visible! It doesn’t matter if the straps are clear plastic, colorful, or covered in polka dots; they should remain under wraps at all times. I have seen girls and women wearing dresses or tops that exposed several straps, including bra straps. This is not attractive. This is not a fashion statement. This is not how a lady presents herself. Wear an undergarment that remains hidden from public view! That’s all I’m going to say about that.

Modesty Training Includes Boys

Dad and Mom should be team-teaching modesty to their male offspring as well. Wearing pants halfway down the derriere is not acceptable. Sons learn how to act and dress as Christian men from their fathers. Fathers must pay attention to what their sons are wearing as well as their daughters.
Boys should not appear as if they are attempting to gain membership into a local gang. Young Christian men should not find this look appealing. The look does not promote godliness or purity to the rest of the world. The kind of people this look will attract will probably not be followers of Christ. Young men must ask themselves what they are attempting to portray to the world and other Christians.

Young men do not have to wear suits to church, but they should present a neat and clean appearance. A nice pair of slacks and a polo shirt or button-up shirt are quite acceptable. The hem should not be coming out of the slacks nor should the bottom of the hems be frayed. Shoes and socks not flip flops are preferred. Sons should also be taught to keep hair clean, combed, and at a neat length. Teaching young men how to dress prepares them for when they will be interviewing for that first job when they are around sixteen years of age. Many employers I have spoken with have become exasperated and discouraged with the lack of common sense in young people who dress inappropriately when going on a job interview. If the interviewee dresses poorly for the interview when attempting to make a good first impression, how much worse will he dress if he actually is hired?

Dads might take their sons out to lunch or dinner. Once in a while, depending on the budget, choose a restaurant where a tie and jacket are required. If the budget cannot accommodate such a “field trip,” then set up a “restaurant” at home and arrange the table with the extra eating utensils often used in fine restaurants. Help your son become comfortable in various situations. This will prepare your son for his future, whether it’s to enter the job market or for when he becomes a husband and a father.

How do you treat the mother of your children? Do you honor her and treat her with dignity? Your sons will learn to respect girls and women when they observe Dad showing respect for their mother and sisters.

Dads are responsible for training sons in good conduct, good manners, and proper speech. If the father exemplifies a man of God in his own life, the son more likely will follow his positive example. Fathers should exert leadership in the home and provide sons guidance in all areas of life.

Look Upon That Which is Pure
The visual testimony (how one dresses, behaves, etc.) is powerful and often is used to draw conclusions about an individual. Children must be taught the basics of presenting a positive impression. This is not about trying to deceive—it’s about presenting a message to the world about who you are as a Christian. Modesty must be incorporated into the daily lessons parents are teaching their children. Immodesty is too often reflected in Christians. “As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion” (Prov. 11:22).

If Mom is dressing inappropriately, how can we expect daughter to dress properly? Philippians 4:8 instructs us accordingly: “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.” It is difficult to dwell on pure thoughts when Christians are failing in the modesty department. Be a positive role model for your children by wearing clothing suitable for a man or woman who follows Christ.

Choosing friends who are Christ-like in their attitudes, talk, and dress helps to reinforce those qualities in children. Develop friendships with other families who value these same qualities. “He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm” (Prov. 13:20).

Dressing for the Occasion
It is disheartening to see the lack of discretion among young people at social functions. T-shirts, jeans, tennis shoes, or flip flops are not appropriate for a wedding. Out of respect for the bride and groom and their families, but most especially out of respect for our God, we should wear clothing appropriate for the occasion as well as appropriate for a follower of Christ. “I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect” (Rom. 12:1–2). I am reminded in Matthew 22 where the man who attended the wedding without wearing proper wedding clothes was bound and cast into “the outer darkness.” The passage is speaking in a covenantal sense, but in a practical sense, I believe we also learn that dressing appropriately is expected from believers, otherwise the illustration doesn’t make sense.

I have visited churches where casualness was the operating dress mode from the worshippers to the ministers. Men and women who dress well to go to work sometimes attend church to worship the Creator looking as if they have just come from the beach or rolled out of bed. God won’t send us to hell if we wear flip flops to church. But doesn’t our King deserve the respect due Him? Our bodies are a living sacrifice and how we present them to the heavenly Father is a sign of our respect or disrespect. “I urge you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship” (Rom. 12:1). It is difficult preparing the heart and mind to worship when a young lady in the pew in front of you is wearing a strapless dress and keeps pulling up the bodice. It is especially difficult for the young men around her to concentrate on the sermon when their eyes keep roaming toward the strapless dress wearer fidgeting with her garment. Teach your children to live as followers of Christ and not as those who bend and sway with whatever the world offers at the moment in fashion or entertainment. Part of presenting our bodies as a living and holy sacrifice is what we put on our bodies. Does it glorify the Father? If clothing conforms to the world and distracts from spiritual service of worship, we are not presenting what is good and acceptable and perfect (Rom. 12:2).

This past weekend, my husband and I attended a wedding. It was held at our church, which is quite large. The church was filled with guests who were there to celebrate the marriage of the bride and a groom who is a beloved Christian high school teacher and works with the young people in our church. Though our new fellowship hall is very large, it was still not large enough to hold the many people who would attend the reception, so guests drove to a nearby church where the reception facility could accommodate all of us. As I visited with friends and enjoyed the wonderful food, I couldn’t help but notice how attractively well-covered the young ladies were, and I was very encourage! With a couple of exceptions, all of the young women wore becoming dresses, reminding me of the style of clothes I wore years ago and has again become popular today. The young women looked feminine and lovely. Their hair was not garishly colored nor did they wear makeup or nail polish that shouted “I’m a rebel without a cause!” I have thought about this pleasant experience for the past few days, and I am encouraged and full of hope that feminine modesty will reign once again."

In response, a group of at least 600 prominent German professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds has issued a public statement and petition to protest the "totalitarian aspirations of the gay and lesbian associations." These organizations, they said, are trying to suppress freedom of expression and academic inquiry at the upcoming 6th International Congress for Psychotherapy and Counseling in Marburg.

On March 29, the Lesbian and Gay Association of Germany (LSVD) in an open letter to the mayor of the city of Marburg and the university, attacked the management of the Congress, saying that a talk scheduled by two experts on "identity development for men and women" should be cancelled.

Markus Hoffmann, a therapist who offers counseling to homosexuals who wish to leave the homosexual lifestyle, and Dr. Christl Ruth Vonholdt, of the German Institute for Youth and Society (DIJG), are still set to speak at the conference.

Dr. Vonholdt is a physician for child and adolescent medicine and is involved in research and counseling on human sexuality, male and female identity formation, sexuality and culture, and marriage and the family. She is the author of the paper, "The Deconstruction Of Marriage and Family," in which she asserts that the issue of the acceptance of homosexuality as normal, "has long ceased to be that of tolerance, but of the dissolution of marriage bonds and family ties."

Other disruptions by the homosexualist lobby of similar events have occurred in Germany in recent memory. Two events, a conference on "Religiosity in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy" in October 2007 in Graz, and the "Christival" in the spring of 2008 in Bremen, had to be conducted under police protection.

In 2007, the Austrian Society of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy was pressured to remove Markus Hoffmann from the list of speakers at the "Religiosity in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy" conference. Hoffmann, an evangelical Christian leader, later voluntarily withdrew from the conference.

Such actions, the petition's signatories say, "constitute an attack on fundamental liberties guaranteed by the constitution."

The statement continues: "Nobody denies the dignity of persons with homosexual orientation and their personal freedom. But there are people who suffer and seek therapeutic help."

TEA parties and Specter's support of Big Government makes him unelectable in the Republican party in Pennsylvania...

Senator Arlen Spector of Pennsylvania switches party from Republican to Democrat. CNSNews.com reports that Arlen on 03/19/2009 said, "To eliminate any doubt, I am a Republican, and I am running for reelection in 2010 as a Republican on the Republican ticket."

Now Specter has announced he is changing parties. CNSNews.com reports Specter said, “The decision has been reached gradually as I have traveled the state in the last several months,” Specter said. “And specifically, I got my own poll results back last Friday--late last week, and consulted with my campaign managers, and had a long discussion with Joan and my son Shanin over the weekend, and came to a decision over this past weekend.”

What polls could those be? Specter has been significantly falling in the polls against Toomey by 21 points according to Rasmussen for the 2010 primaries in Pennsylvania. "Those are stunningly poor numbers for a long-term incumbent senator. Specter was first elected to the Senate in 1980." Specter's popularity fell significantly after his support of Obama's stimulus bill as the passing of that bill hinged on three Republican votes Specter being one of them. Rasmussen notes this, "He was one of only three Republicans in the Congress to vote for President Obama’s $787 billion stimulus plan. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Pennsylvania Republicans said they were less likely to vote for Specter because of his support for the stimulus package." But also, the TEA Party's were included as another sign. "In another sign that could be troubling for Specter, the current poll finds that 79% of Pennsylvania Republicans have a favorable opinion of the “Tea Party” protests against big government spending and higher taxes held across the nation last week."

Abortion:
A pro-life Oakland pastor chooses jail over a plea bargain—and leads prisoners to Christ | Lynn Vincent

Fred Greaves/Genesis Photos

For 19 days in March and April, Walter Hoye was locked in a cell with 29 other prisoners at the Santa Rita jail near Oakland, Calif. There were times when he wished he could have stayed longer.

When the metal door first clanged shut behind him on March 20, Hoye, 52, decided the space was really more of a cage than a cell. A metal grid penning in prisoners. Fifteen bunks lining two walls. Two toilets and a urinal for all 30 men, and a shower that inmates had gradually transformed into a pornographic shrine.

As Hoye made his way to an empty bunk, a few prisoners, mostly black and Latino, dogged his path. "You smuggle in any drugs, man?" one of them asked.

"No," Hoye said quietly.

Then the veteran inmates left him alone, he told me, except for "one of the brothers who was kind enough to help me make up my bed."

A few minutes later, another man walked over to Hoye's bunk and jabbed his finger at a newspaper he was holding. "This you?" he said, eyeing Hoye skeptically.

Hoye peered at the Oakland Tribune headline: "Anti-abortion pastor chooses jail."

"Yeah, that's me," he said.

In the next moment, the inmate was striding up and down the length of the cell, announcing, "Hey, he don't have to be here! He turned down probation! He doing straight time for what he believed in!"

It was true: On Feb. 19, Alameda County Superior Court Judge Stuart Hing sentenced Walter Hoye, a Missionary Baptist minister, to 30 days in jail after Hoye refused a plea deal that included three years' probation, a small fine, and an order that he stay at least 100 yards away from Family Planning Specialists, an Oakland abortion clinic.

Passionate about the sky-high abortion rate among African-Americans, Hoye began offering men and women assistance at the clinic in 2006. About one in three Oakland residents is black, compared with a statewide African-American population of 6 percent. And though blacks make up only 12 percent of the U.S. population, they account for one-third of all abortions performed in the United States. More than three in 10 black women abort their unborn children.

According to the 2006 census, deaths now exceed live births among African-Americans. "We're no longer replacing ourselves," Hoye said. "So we're not using terms like holocaust and genocide just to elicit a response. It's the truth."

In response, once a week Hoye stood quietly outside Family Planning Specialists with a sign that said, "Jesus loves you and your baby. Let us help." When people approached the clinic, Hoye would ask their permission to speak with them about abortion alternatives; he also offered them pamphlets describing available help.

In 2007, pro-abortion clinic "escorts" began to show up in groups, surrounding Hoye and impeding his movement. They blocked his sign with sheets of blank cardboard and shouted down his low-key offers of help. When that didn't scare Hoye off, clinic managers lobbied the Oakland city council and in December 2007, the council instituted a "bubble-zone" ordinance applicable within a 100-foot radius of any Oakland abortion clinic. The law made it a crime to "approach within eight feet of any person seeking to enter" a "reproductive health care facility" in order to offer literature, display a sign, or engage in "oral protest, education, or counseling."

"This law is horribly unconstitutional," Hoye said. "It allows abortion clinics to decide which U.S. citizens are allowed to retain their constitutional right to free speech."

Represented by Life Legal Defense Fund (LLDF), Hoye challenged the ordinance in court. The case is still pending, but in May 2008, Oakland public attorneys acting in cooperation with clinic managers charged Hoye with "unlawful approaches" to women, and "force, threat of force, or physical obstruction."

What prosecutors did not know was that LLDF attorneys possessed four hours of uncut videotape documenting Hoye's activities outside the clinic on the dates in question. At trial in January 2009, the tapes impeached the testimony of clinic director Jackie Barbic, who claimed that Hoye repeatedly broke the 8-foot rule and that she and a patient had to put up their hands to fend him off. Instead, the tapes showed Hoye standing still as Barbic approached him; then they showed Hoye walking away. No incident shown on the tape matched Barbic's testimony, and even clinic escorts testified that Hoye was always cordial and never obstructed anyone's path or used threats or force.

Inexplicably, the jury still found Hoye guilty. At sentencing, the prosecutor recommended the probation and the clinic stay-away order—or two years in jail. When Hoye refused the stay-away order, Judge Hing appeared "surprised," Hoye said. "The judge was essentially asking me to stop trying to help men and women outside an abortion clinic, and I just would not voluntarily give up my First Amendment rights."

In February, Hing levied a sentence of 30 days and Hoye reported to the Santa Rita jail a month later. After the newspaper-reading inmate touted the Tribune article to the other prisoners—many of them inner-city drug dealers whose highest aspiration was to stay out of prison, they clamored to know why a man would choose jail over freedom. From that moment on, Hoye found himself in constant demand.

"I would be holding court with about 30 guys, explaining why I did what I did," he said. "I explained what an abortion actually does, that it takes an innocent human life. We held prayer vigils, we had Bible studies. I must have counseled and mentored guys all day and all night. It got to the point where we started talking seriously about Christ."

Most of the men in the cage at first mouthed pro-choice slogans, Hoye said. "But when I forced them to complete the sentence, 'I believe that a woman has a right to choose to kill an innocent life,' they couldn't do it."

One morning at about 2:30 a.m., a good-looking young man named Terrell approached Hoye's bunk and asked what actually goes on during an abortion. Using his fingers to simulate a woman's legs spreading, Hoye showed Terrell how the abortionist inserts a vacuum aspirator and sucks out the developing child.

Terrell, 18, told Hoye he had gotten his girlfriend pregnant and that she had aborted. "She made the decision," he said. "It was her choice."

"Yes, I know that, but what did you do?" Hoye replied. "Did you offer to marry her?"

Terrell shook his head. "No, I didn't."

"Did you offer to help her raise the child?"

"No, I didn't."

"Did you tell her that you love her and that you were going to go the distance with her as a man should, even if she decided to give the child up for adoption?"

"No, no, I didn't," Terrell said, his eyes filling with tears. "I never knew. No one ever told me what an abortion is. No one ever made it plain."

When Terrell understood that he had, "perhaps because of his own lack of participation, been complicit in the murder of his own child, it really broke him," Hoye said.

Before Terrell went back to his own bunk that night, Hoye prayed with him. "I told him God could forgive him, that what he'd done wasn't an unforgivable sin."

But the conversation didn't end then. Terrell continued to visit with Hoye. "He began to understand that men have a responsibility to women, and vowed that, for him, an abortion would never happen again. He came to me a young man in jail for dealing drugs, trying to make some money and live the large life. I began to see him grow up."

Released from jail on April 7, Hoye rejoined his wife, Lori, in their Oakland home. Today, he is not sorry for his choice. "I've been a jail chaplain in jail before, and even had the privilege of being a guest preacher at San Quentin. Being an inmate is completely different. I was actually one of them and it gave me a different kind of credibility. I'm sure my adversary meant my incarceration for evil, but God used it for good."

The unborn continue to get constitutional protection in 10 Mexican states in response to Mexico City's abortion on demand law.

LifeSiteNews.com reports: Two More Mexican States Approve Pro-Life Constitutional Amendments by Heavy Majorities. The constitution reads: "The state of Quintana Roo recognizes, protects, and guarantees the right to life of every human being, holding expressly that from the moment of conception it enters under the protection of the law, and is treated as a subject of rights for all corresponding legal effects until its death, save the exceptions that are established by law." And passed 26-2. Now 10 states (Nayarit, Durango, Jalisco, Morelos, Chihuahua, Sonora, Colima, Puebla, Campeche, and Quintana Roo) in Mexico have passed similar amendments in response to Mexico City's abortion on demand law.

Calling should begin again at 6 a.m. PDT on Wed., April 29. Call 1-877-851-6437 toll free or 1-202-225-3121 toll and ask to speak to your local Congressman.

The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission (where I found above video) reports that Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) asked that they amend the bill to allow senior citizens and pregnant women to be included under those protected. Democrats said no. Rom Rooney (R-FL) asked for members of the armed forces to be included but Democrats said no. Steve King (R-IA) asked for anyone with an immutable characteristic but Democrats said no. King also offered an amendment that barred pedophiles from receiving special protection. Democrats said no.

"Because there is not definition of sexual orientation included within this law, under hate crimes bill H.R.1913, if a mother hits a perpetrator after discovering that they were molesting her child, she would be considered a hate criminal. If a man flashes a woman and she slaps him, she could be charged with a federal felony, and the man with a misdemeanor. This is clearly wrong."

  1. The Bill is Unnecessary: Everyone is protected under the law already, and there is no hate-crime epidemic in America. According to the FBI reports, “hate crimes” are only a small fraction of the total crimes committed in America.
  2. Provokes Unconstitutional Thought Police: Laws are not supposed to penalize thought. Apart of American liberty is rooted in the belief that, as Thomas Jefferson thought, "the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions…"
  3. Pastors Charged with Felonies: Pastors, and others, could be considered to have encouraged or induced a "hate crime" for advocating the Biblical view of traditional marriage.

"For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature"

Hate Crimes Bill is being debated now for probably an hour and a half. It's 10:08 AM MT. Click link from CSPAN1 to link in here.

Come back for updates.

Alcee Hastings (D) out of Florida is currently speaking.

Related: YouTube video of congressman explaining on the House floor why hate crime laws are unnecessary and especially this one. Call your congressman.

GOP.gov does a good job in reporting on this bill and what it is at their legislative digest page. Below the advertisment below is a quote from that site as to why many members have concern over this bill. If you feel the same see: YouTube video of congressman explaining on the House floor why hate crime laws are unnecessary and especially this one. Call your congressman. for numbers to quickly call your representative. When I called I focused on:

1) All should be protected against hate equally not just some members of our society. This hate crimes bill only protects some.

2) Hate crimes are dangerous to free speech and religious liberties and first amendment rights cause it can be used by those protected under such laws and has been used to punish and threaten dissenters from affirming the beliefs of those protected under hate crimes against those who are not.

They don't respond but take your concern down. It is very easy to do. The more calls the more your congressman knows that many are concerned.

"POSSIBLE MEMBER CONCERNS

Many Members believe that every potential victim deserves protection-and that their sexual identity should not grant them heightened protection over another potential victim. During Committee consideration of the bill, amendments were offered to add service members, pregnant women, and senior citizens to the list of special classes of people who deserve more protection than others. These amendments were all voted down by Democrats.

Sexual orientation and disability are not defined in the bill. Some Members may feel that as these terms are used in legislation that expands the federal criminal code, they necessitate precise definitions. Members may be concerned that in future criminal proceedings, sexual orientation will be interpreted however a judge wants to interpret it. During debate on this issue during Committee markup, it was made clear that the Democrats did not wish to define sexual orientation at all. In fact, they voted down (on party lines) an amendment offered by Rep. King to exclude pedophilia (sexual orientation toward a child) as a sexual orientation covered by the bill.

Hate crimes establish a system where victims are treated differently based on the "actual or perceived" class or group with which they identify. It will be left to law enforcement agencies to determine whether the offender was motivated by the victim's "perceived" sexual orientation, race, etc. Many Members may feel that expecting the government to determine the feelings and motives of an individual is dangerous.

The proposed categories of "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" in H.R. 1913 create special classes of victims based solely upon behavioral identification with a group of people. Furthermore, the bill equates these protected classes with those of race, color, religion and national origin-a premise that many civil rights leaders may not feel is appropriate.

Specifically, Ranking Member Lamar Smith has the following concerns with the bill (1) raises the possibility that religious leaders or members of religious groups could be prosecuted criminally based on their speech or other protected activities; (2) creates unequal treatment of victims by treating crimes against protected groups more seriously than non-protected groups; (3) encroaches on jurisdiction traditionally reserved to the States; and (4) is unconstitutional as the 14th Amendment affords equal protection to every citizen under the law. Notre Dame Alumni withhold $8.2 million as Obama's former law professor at Harvard will not accept Notre Dame's highest award because of Obama.

Update 05/15/2009 Notre Dame alumni have now withheld $14 million in funds for Notre Dame and the president sits on the board of a pro-abortion organization

Update 04/30/2009
Picture to the left shows the first 300,000 petitions sent to Notre Dame. But you can still sign on to petition.

After you read this post click here if you feel inclined to sign with 341,000 and counting others in protest of this event. 52 Bishops and counting have all listed themselves in disapproval see list here at bottom of this post. Update 05/08/2009 list is at 66 bishops see list at: The heat is on at Notre Dame. Protesters expect to be arrested in the next couple of days and other protests planned for the 17th.

Providence or Coincidence?

This story for the first time breaks into Big Media (which is rare considering Big Media's liberal slant) with Obama's former law professor at Harvard and a former US Ambassador to the Vatican rejecting Notre Dame's highest award.

Bryan Williams at NBC Nightly News reported: "More fallout tonight from Notre Dame's decision to have President Obama deliver the commencement address. Mary Ann Glendon, who was Barack Obama's law professor at Harvard and a former U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican, now says she will not accept the university's highest award because the school is honoring a President whose position on abortion starkly differs from that of the Catholic church."

For what didn't make Big Media

The very same providential day that Mary (Obama's former professor) rejects award and the story breaks into Big Media, ReplaceJenkins.com released this statement to the press entitled: "NOTRE DAME ALUMNI CONFIRM $8.2 MILLION IN WITHHELD DONATIONS – IN ONE WEEK
....The website ReplaceJenkins.com has received over 900 pledges from alumni and donors promising to withhold future donations...."

LifeSiteNews reports Notre Dame's response: "We are, of course, disappointed that Professor Glendon has made this decision. It is our intention to award the Laetare Medal to another deserving recipient, and we will make that announcement as soon as possible." And the response from the White House: "President Obama is disappointed by former Ambassador Mary Glendon’s decision, but he looks forward to delivering an inclusive and respectful speech at the Notre Dame graduation, a school with a rich history of fostering the exchange of ideas. While he is honored to have the support of millions of people of all faiths, he does not govern with the expectation that everyone sees eye to eye with him on every position, and the spirit of debate and healthy disagreement on important issues is part of what he loves about this country." And her statement in full is below:

"Dear Father Jenkins,

When you informed me in December 2008 that I had been selected to receive Notre Dame's Laetare Medal, I was profoundly moved. I treasure the memory of receiving an honorary degree from Notre Dame in 1996, and I have always felt honored that the commencement speech I gave that year was included in the anthology of Notre Dame's most memorable commencement speeches. So I immediately began working on an acceptance speech that I hoped would be worthy of the occasion, of the honor of the medal, and of your students and faculty.

Last month, when you called to tell me that the commencement speech was to be given by President Obama, I mentioned to you that I would have to rewrite my speech. Over the ensuing weeks, the task that once seemed so delightful has been complicated by a number of factors.

First, as a longtime consultant to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, I could not help but be dismayed by the news that Notre Dame also planned to award the president an honorary degree. This, as you must know, was in disregard of the U.S. bishops' express request of 2004 that Catholic institutions "should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles" and that such persons "should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions." That request, which in no way seeks to control or interfere with an institution's freedom to invite and engage in serious debate with whomever it wishes, seems to me so reasonable that I am at a loss to understand why a Catholic university should disrespect it.

Then I learned that "talking points" issued by Notre Dame in response to widespread criticism of its decision included two statements implying that my acceptance speech would somehow balance the event:

- "President Obama won't be doing all the talking. Mary Ann Glendon, the former U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, will be speaking as the recipient of the Laetare Medal."

- "We think having the president come to Notre Dame, see our graduates, meet our leaders, and hear a talk from Mary Ann Glendon is a good thing for the president and for the causes we care about."

A commencement, however, is supposed to be a joyous day for the graduates and their families. It is not the right place, nor is a brief acceptance speech the right vehicle, for engagement with the very serious problems raised by Notre Dame's decision-in disregard of the settled position of the U.S. bishops-to honor a prominent and uncompromising opponent of the Church's position on issues involving fundamental principles of justice.

Finally, with recent news reports that other Catholic schools are similarly choosing to disregard the bishops' guidelines, I am concerned that Notre Dame's example could have an unfortunate ripple effect.

It is with great sadness, therefore, that I have concluded that I cannot accept the Laetare Medal or participate in the May 17 graduation ceremony.

In order to avoid the inevitable speculation about the reasons for my decision, I will release this letter to the press, but I do not plan to make any further comment on the matter at this time.

Yours Very Truly,
Mary Ann Glendon"
